British artist Lynette Yiadom-Boakye has won the main award of the second Future Generation Art Prize. She will receive $100,000 and be featured in a solo show at the Pinchuk Art Center in Kiev next autumn. The jury—consisting of Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, Agnaldo Farias, Massimiliano Gioni, Carol Yinghua Lu, Hans Ulrich Obrist, Eckhard Schneider, and Nancy Spector—said it awarded the prize to Yiadom-Boakye “for her extraordinary paintings where darkness and light are articulated together, recognizing the quality of the paintings and the social concerns that emerge from them.” The jury also commended her for her “complex practice, which extends far beyond painting.” Artists Jonathas de Andrade, Micol Assael, Ahmet Ögüt, Rayyane Tabet, and Marwa Arsanios were all named winners of the special prize, and will receive financial support to participate in artist-in-residence programs.
