A pastor from Miami is in court for allegedly attempting to sell fraudulent works by Damien Hirst, the New York Daily News. Kevin Sutherland, 45, who was arrested last month, was apparently tried to consign one fake painting to Sotheby’s New York, before attempting a sale of a further five to an undercover police officer. Sotheby’s identified the signature on the back of each painting as being fraudulent. Sutherland was looking for a sale price of $800,000. Sutherland pleaded not guilty, and was granted $100,000 bail by Manhattan Supreme Court. The case continues. If found guilty, Sutherland can face up to seven years imprisonment.
