The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco have announced that Colin Bailey will be their new director, reports Scarlet Cheng of the Art Newspaper. Bailey’s appointment follows the sudden firing of Lynn Orr in November, which sparked much speculation and even criticism. Currently the deputy director and chief curator at the Frick Collection, Bailey will soon oversee a staff of 550 over in San Francisco, and will divide his attention between the Fine Arts Museums’ two sites: the Legion of Honor, which contains a classical European art collection, and the de Young Museum, which houses art from Oceania, Africa, and the Americas, costumes and textiles, and American art from the seventeenth century to the present. Before working at the Frick, Bailey was deputy director and chief curator at the National Gallery of Canada.
