The Corcoran Gallery of Art announced yesterday that it would pursue a partnership with the University of Maryland, reports Patricia Cohen of the New York Times. The gallery has been looking for a partner since it decided to stay at its current location after proposing to move out of its Beaux-Arts building near the White House due to needed renovations costing $130 million. The Corcoran also announced a deal with the National Gallery of Art to exhibit its modern and contemporary holdings during the public museum’s three-year renovation of its East Wing. “We have rebuilt our fundraising team from the ground up,” said Harry Hopper, president of the Corcoran’s board. “We have a strategic framework for a new Corcoran.”
