朱屺瞻与众多现当代大家被认定是在传统领域内做了拓展、创新的工作,他们的创作实际上已经有别于传统的中国画,但是由于新的评价系统没有建立,对他们作品的解读也是停留在传统画论的层面,遮盖了这些艺术家在引进新的语汇创造新的画面时所取得的成就。从传统中国画到现代水墨并不是突然发生的,但这中间却出现了理论研究和批评的缺失。使得这两个领域缺乏对接。实际上现代水墨的产生,以及1970年代到1980年代开始的现代艺术运动都受到这些老画家的影响。我们甚至可以假设:假如接续他们的研究成果,现代“水墨”的方向有可能是更为多元化的。比如,朱屺瞻指出中国画应该适应新的语境变化,全新的语境必然催生图式语言的革新,将西画的色彩元素、野兽派的影响融入中国画内部,这种工作带来了画面结构的转变,但又保留了画面的“元气”。这个部分希望将朱屺瞻作为一个点,推动对现当代中国画画家和现象的研究,从新的视角来探讨传统革新派给后来的探索者带来的启发。

Together with other modern masters,Zhu Qizhan is recognized as an innovator and creator within the traditional Chinese ink art domain. Indeed,the output of these artists has gone beyond the traditional boundaries of Chinese painting. However,as a new system of evaluation has yet to be established,current examination of these artists' works have been confined to traditional aesthetic perspectives,which in turn obscured the new visuals and results that have emerged from the use of a new visual vocabulary.The advent of modern Chinese ink painting did not happen overnight. However,there have been gaps in theoretical studies and criticism along the way,which have alienated the two domains from each other. In fact,the birth of modern Chinese ink art and the modern art movements of the 1970s and 1980s were all,in part,due to the influence of these old painters. We may even hypothesize that had their research efforts continued,the direction of modern“Chinese ink painting”would have taken more diverse paths. For instance,Zhu Qizhan once noted that Chinese painting should evolve to suit the new types of exhibition spaces that were emerging,and that new color and Fauvist elements should be injected into Chinese ink painting. Such work would bring structural changes while retaining the“spirit”of the painting surface. The objective of this part of the event is to promote scholarship on modern Chinese ink artists by using Zhu Qizhan and his work as a starting point to discover new perspectives on inspiration brought to later explorers by reformist artists.
