The Milwaukee Art Museum has hired Tanya Paul as curator of European art, a new position, effective in June. The museum's previous curator of earlier European art and director of exhibitions was Laurie Winters, who left last year to become director of the Milwaukee, Wisc.-based think tank The Art Consortium. Paul is currently the curator of European art at the Philbrook Museum of Art in Tulsa, Okla., a position she has held since fall 2009.
Among the exhibitions she has curated for the Philbrook are "Scenes from the Low Countries: Dutch and Flemish Prints in the Age of Rembrandt" and "The Sinuous Line: Jacques Callot and the Rebirth of Printmaking in Early Modern France." Her exhibition "Elegance and Refinement: The Still-Life Paintings of Willem van Aelst," organized during a fellowship at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, later traveled to National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
"Tanya Paul brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this new position at the Museum," said Brady Roberts, chief curator at the museum.
