On Thursday, April 25, the Andy Warhol Foundation will be presenting an array of signed and unsigned Andy Warhol posters on Fab.com. The rare and vintage posters, dating from the 1960s to 1990s, will launch at 4pm EST on Thursday, April 25 at 4pm EST and run concurrently for 14 days on Fab US and Fab EU.
The posters will be priced from $160 to $3,900. A series of 55 posters selected by Fab’s founder, Bradford Shellhammer, will be offered in the US, and 41 in the EU.
Last September, the Warhol Foundation announced that they will be donating or selling their entire collection so they could transition exclusively into a grant-making organization. The original art work will be sold through the Christie’s auction house. The sale of the Foundation’s collection, according to the New York Times, is expected to raise $100 million.
One of the posters that will appear on Fab.com from the Warhol Foundation sale. “Brillo, Pasadena Art Museum 12 May – 21 June 1970″ (1970) — Andy Warhol’s Brillo boxes were originally produced for a 1964 exhibition at the Stable Gallery in New York City. These 120 sculptures were joined by 220 other replica Kellogg’s, Motts, Del Monte, and Heinz products, stacked in columns that simulated the atmosphere of a grocery store inside a gallery. It was bold move that recontextualized consumer designs by casting them in the light of fine art. Created for an exhibition at the Pasadena Art Museum, this original poster reproduces the Brillo box design in a playful mix of green, yellow, and blue. “Campbell’s Soup Box” (1985) — Andy Warhol’s career was never the same after the debut of his groundbreaking Campbell’s Soup Cans in 1961. For this 32-screenprint work, Warhol reproduced 32 classic Campbell’s cans with near mechanical accuracy, creating a series that placed him at the fertile nexus of fine art and consumer design. Campbell’s Soup Box was made in 1985 — just two years before Warhol’s untimely death — and marks a return to the Campbell’s motif in an exquisitely rendered original poster depicting a box of Campbell’s chicken noodle soup. “Perrier” (1983) — Never a stranger to advertising illustration, Andy Warhol created marketing material for dozens of companies, always in his own signature style. This original poster for Perrier shows a trio of the classic bottles rendered with Warhol’s unmistakable palette and overlaid images. Commissioned in 1982 and completed in 1983, the advertising campaign was coordinated by Langelaan & Cerf of Paris and was awarded the Grand Prix de l’Affiche Française — the French Poster Grand Prix — that very year. “Brooklyn Bridge 1883-1983″ (1983) — Andy Warhol created the screenprint Brooklyn Bridge 1883-1983 from a photograph taken from the permanent collection of the Museum of the City of New York. The work was commissioned by the Brooklyn Bridge Centennial Commission, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Brooklyn Bridge, and reprinted as posters. This original poster shows two prints of the bridge set in opposing directions and updated with a Pop palette of orange, yellow, teal, magenta, and purple. “Rain Dance” (1985) — Created in 1985 for Rain Dance, a benefit for the African Emergency Relief Fund, this original poster brings together five Pop Art masters in a single design. A collaboration between Jean-Michel Basquiat, Roy Lichtenstein, Keith Haring, Yoko Ono, and Andy Warhol, the piece shows elements easily attributed to each artist, yet comes together to form an aesthetically cohesive whole. One copy of this seminal poster is signed by several of the contributing artists. Original vintage poster stamped on back with “The Estate of Andy Warhol.”
