
重新发展,只是重复发展 REdevelopment,it just repeats development

大规模的发展项目,是资本与政权力量的结合,总是伴随着暴力,摧毁自然和都市的生态,还有居民的民生。这项展览试图反映环保观点,深入自然、城市和人们的生活探讨这些问题。
与上海2012年双年展的主题相关联,“重启动”“重新发展”展现发展与重新发展进入日程之后会产生的问题。展览标题“重新发展”暗示韩国的这类问题,在韩国,一切都在飞速发展,尽管采用的是一套落后的资本主义系统。“重新发展”意为“重发明”,“重新发展”这个词说明,发展与重新发展通常同时进行。本次展览是一个讨论的场所,体现多种未来,艺术家对于大肆发展的国家留下的伤疤,有着坚定的克服的决心。参展艺术家揭露飞速发展的韩国社会背后暗藏的暴力。
催泰润使用了各种媒介表现新旧媒体,包括装置、表演、视频等。催泰润在大田长大,直到大学毕业,现在在纽约工作,在他的公共艺术和声音艺术作品中,他表现了资本社会的问题和灵活性。艺术家在他的艺术书籍《反抗宣言》中,暗示了不久的将来以宣言形式出现的生存手册。这本书既包含抵抗又包含顺从,在展览空间里以装置概念的形式展出。在开幕展上,艺术家会一边背诵书中内容,一边在10米高的墙上现场作画。《噪音收集器》中,声音从扩音器以及艺术家制造的噪音机器中发出。在这个制造噪音的过程中,艺术家展现出现代资本社会生产力、劳动力和创造力等问题。催泰润的作品通过技术、艺术、能源和抗拒等问题揭露,资本社会的资产是自家发电,总是伴随着无休无止的发展和重新发展。
曹慧真的作品会唤起现代社会里人们的怀旧情绪。艺术家做了一个城市旧建筑的小模型。她经常在不同地点工作,但最近待在比较近的大田清州的居民区,注意到韩国社会中残存的早期现代社会的场景。艺术家精致的、非常个人化的小型雕塑,表现了曾经是繁荣发展象征的城市,现在成为暴力摧毁和拆卸的目标这一事实。雕塑中的城市形象现在已尘封于历史档案,比如咖啡馆、小旅馆、教堂、家门、成人用品店、理发店等,是现代发展遗留物,和当代社会高速发展形成鲜明对比。曹慧真的作品既怀旧又有象征意义,揭露了正在被重新发展威胁着的大田的过去,同时展现100年前大田还未变成现代社会时的样子。
姜显郁的作品通过新媒体艺术的科学艺术手段,多线程地激发个人及集体的心理反应。艺术家设计的媒介很广泛,包括装置、视频、全息影像、互动艺术、表演以及绘画。本次展览,姜显郁展出一支三频道视频。《那个男人》由活动摄影和3D动画交叉编辑而成。本作品展现了现代社会人们的焦虑,人们处在发展与重新发展的暴力中,每天推开门,看到的都是不同的陌生世界,世界观也因此被摧毁和扭曲。这支15米长的全景形式的视觉作品展现了现代城市不断重复的动作:生产然后摧毁,发展然后退化,增值然后减退,发展然后重新发展。
根据资本主义社会推进的逻辑,重新发展只不过是发展的重复过程而已。社会的所有机制中的可视成分,如建筑、街道;还有不可视因素,如政治、经济、文化,都会随着时间的潮流改变。
然而,改变,应该和大自然中一样,是自生自灭的结果。现代都市被一波又一波的重新发展蹂躏,艺术家将这种状况反映出来,表现对于社会机制改变中出现的暴力和冲突的批判。和自然生态一样,都市生态应该遵循自然生态的自净法则,有机地进行改变。面对这个展览,我们需要带着审慎的姿态,思考这样一个事实:资本政权所传播的重新发展的逻辑,已经阻碍了自然生态的改变,因此,除了发展与重新发展的二元对立逻辑,人们需要为社会的未来想出一个其他的办法。
Chief Curator of Daejeon Museum of Art
Large-scale development project,which is a combination of the power of state and the power of capital,accompanies violence that destroys the natural ecology and urban ecology,as well as the community’s civic life.This exhibition attempts to reflect ecological point of view,which goes through the nature,the city,and the lives of human beings,on these issues.Linked to the overall theme of “Shanghai Biennale 2012”,“Reactivation”,“Redevelopment” presents the problems of development and redevelopment as an agenda.The title of the exhibition “Redevelopment” intends to imply the reflection of the problems of development and redevelopment in Korea,a country which has been growing at a rapid pace despit its laggard adoption of the capitalist system.“Redevelopment” means “re-invent.” The wording “Redevelopment” reveals the problems of development and redevelopment standing in the same line as a result.This exhibition is a field of discussion that reflects on alternative future through the works of artists with a vision of solidarity to overcome the scars left behind the violent developments of the country and capital.Participating artists reveal the underlying covert violence under the development and prosperity of Korean society.
CHOI Taeyoon penetrates the new and old media by using various mediums from sculptures to installation,performance,video,and so on.CHOI,who spent childhood and graduate school in Daejeon and as currently working in New York,deals with the problem of the fluctuations of the capitalist society and the problem of its corresponding through his publications,banners,and sound art.The artist suggests the manual of survival in the near future in the form of declaration in his artist book Anti Manifesto.Containing a dichotomy of resistance and compliance,this book is exhibited as an installation concept in the exhibition space.While reciting the contents of this book,the artist shows a live drawing performance on the 10 meter wall for its opening show.Noise collector tells the sound coming from the amplifier and noise machine created by the artist.In the noise generated process,CHOI presents the issues such as production,labor,and creating after the modern capitalist society.CHOI Taeyoon’s art works exposes the properties of capitalist society as a self-development,which is accomplished by the endless development and redevelopment,through the issues of technology and art,power and resistance.
JO Hyejin’s small objects awake that there is a sense of nostalgia for the people in the modern city.JO makes a small scale model of the city’s old buildings.The artist,who mainly works in alternative space and recently stays in the nearby city of Daejeon,Cheongju residency,pays her attention to the early modern scenes and situation that is till retained in the Korea’s modern city.JO’s sophisticated and very personal touch miniature sculptures show a cross-section of the modern city which once was a symbol of development and prosperity,but now a target of violent destruction and dismantling tumble.The images of the city in the sculptures,which already switched into the subjects of historical archiving,for example,cafe,inn,church,homes gate,adult shop,barbershop,etc.,are modern heritage,contrasting state-of-the-art image of the modern city.JO’s art works are nostalgia which symbolically reveals Daejeon’s past which endangered by the logic of redevelopment,and icon of Daejeon where 100 years ago developed into a modern city at the same time.
KANG Hyunwook is an artist who deals with the various agendas to stimulate personal and collective psychology through New Media Art of Science Art.The artist works with large range of media from installation,video,holograms,interactive art,performance to drawing and painting.In this exhibition,KANG presents a three-channel video.This video clip The Man is a cross-edited result of live-action cinematography and 3D animation.This art work shows the anxiety and lack of the modern city’s people,who are exposed to violence of development and redevelopment,by suggesting the destroyed and dismantled views of the city and the unfamiliar situations encountered when you open the door to the unknown world.The panoramic format with the visual impact of 15-meter-long video clip compressively shows the repeated aspects of modern society such as producing and destroying,development and degeneration,proliferation and reduction,development and redevelopment.
In the most societies moving according to the logic of capitalism,the redevelopment only repeats development.All the mechanisms of society including visible components,such as architecture and street to build the city,and the political,economic,and cultural invisible social formations change depending on the flow of time.However,the changes shall be sequentially made in accordance with the self-be made laws of change and development as the change of the nature.Reflecting on the aspects of modern society which is ravaged by the frenzy of redevelopment through the agenda “Redevelopment” is an attempt to have critical reflection on the violence and contradiction occurred in the process of social mechanism’s change.As well as the natural ecology,urban ecology should be organically changed according to the ecological purified function.Countered toward this exhibition,we need to gather head and chest depth view to ponder that the logic of redevelopment disseminated by the power of the state and capital obstruct these ecological changes and from the result people need to imagine an alternative of future society beyond the dichotomous logic of development and redevelopment.
