The nation of Angola has won a Golden Lion award at this year’s Venice Biennale for its two exhibitions, “Luanda, Encyclopedic City,” which features work by photographer Edson Chagas, and “Angola em Movimento” (Angola in Motion), a group show with a focus on painting and sculpture. Artist Tino Sehgal also won a Golden Lion, recognized by the jury as best artist in “Encyclopedic Palace,” the exhibition curated by Massimiliano Gioni in the main pavilion of the Giardini. Meanwhile, a Silver Lion went to Camille Henrot for her video work that appeared in the Arsenale. Jury members for this year’s award included Jessica Morgan, Sofia Hernández, Francesco Manacorda, Bisi Silva, and Ali Subotnick.
