
Singapore Biennale Releases Full List of Artists

Singaporean performance artist Lee Wen, Filipino video artist Manny Montelibano, Vietnamese sculptor Tran Nam and Burmese installation artist Nge Lay are among the list of 27 participating artists released by the Singapore Biennale on August 14, bringing up the total number of featured artists to 82.
Running from October 26 to February 16, 2014, the contemporary art event will have a Southeast Asian and Asian focus, compared to the more international outlooks of the previous editions. The title for this year’s Biennale is “If the World Changed,” and artists were selected for their responses to changing environments and their conception of an ideal world. Visitors can see expect to see performance works by artists such as Sharon Chin (Malaysia); paintings by artists such as Tan Wei Kheng (Malaysia) and Leslie de Chavez (Philippines); video works by Manny Montelibano (Philippines), Nguyen Trinh Thi(Vietnam) and Khvay Samnang (Cambodia); as well as installation works by Shieko Reto (Malaysia), Nge Lay (Myanmar), Joo Choon Lin (Singapore), Leroy Sofyan (Singapore) and Oscar Villamiel (Philippines). The breadth of the selection is thanks to an unprecedentedly large curatorial team of 27 experts drawn from the region.
Costing S$6 million to put on and organised by the Singapore Art Museum, this year’s Biennale will be held in the Bras Basah-Bugis area and spread out over several participating venues: Singapore Art Museum (including SAM at 8Q), National Museum of Singapore, The Peranakan Museum, Fort Canning Park, National Library Building and Waterloo Centre.
Ticketing details have also been released for the event. They can be purchased from participating museum venues at $10 for adults, and $5 for students and senior citizens. Each ticket allows one-time entry to Singapore Biennale 2013 museum venues (including permanent galleries) and one complimentary short guide. Visitors can enjoy free admission to Biennale artworks at outdoor venues including Fort Canning Park, Our Museum@Taman Jurong, National Library Building and Waterloo Centre.
