Christopher Wool’s ‘Apocalypse Now’ Highlights Christie’s Contemporary Evening Sale

Christopher Wool’s Apocalypse Now, a painting of the words “SELL THE HOUSE SELL THE CAR SELL THE KIDS,” will hit the block at Christie’s post-war and contemporary evening sale in New York on November 12. It is estimated at $15-20 million.
In a release, Christie’s said the painting is “poised to break Wool’s world auction record of $7.7 million,” which happened in 2012 at Christie’s London. Brett Gorvy, chairman of Christie’s post-war and contemporary department, called Apocalypse Now, which was completed in 1988, “the essential image of our times.”
