French Street Artist Invader Arrested During New York City Tiling Spree

2013-11-04 08:39:52 未知

Banksy’s New York City “residency” may be over, but another prolific European street artist who’s been leaving his mark on the city won’t be leaving just yet: Frenchman Invader was arrested on Wednesday night while he was putting up more of his trademark 8-bit tiles, the Lo-Down reports. The artist was putting the finishing touches on a piece depicting Princess Peach — the damsel in distress from the Super Mario video game series — at the corner of Orchard and Broome streets, when the NYPD arrived on the scene and arrested him.

Mark Miller, the owner of the building at 90 Orchard Street, where the mosaic was briefly installed, told the Lo-Down that the arrest took place at between 3-4am. Miller has since removed the mosaic, which came off essentially undamaged, and plans to keep it. At least seven other Invader mosaics have turned up in the vicinity this week, from the façade of the New Museum to street artist favorite 1 Spring Street (at top).

This isn’t Invader’s first brush with American law enforcement; in 2011, while in Los Angeles for the Museum of Contemporary Art’s street art survey “Art in the Streets” he was picked up by the LAPD.
