In addition to being the painter of Northern Renaissance masterpiece “The Garden of Earthly Delights,” turns out Hieronymus Bosch was also a composer of butt music. This revelation hit the Internet earlier this week when a blogger discovered a musical composition on the rear end of a sinner in the far right panel of Bosch’s triptych and recorded the song found there.
“Luke and I were looking at Hieronymus Bosch’s painting The Garden of Earthly Delights and discovered, much to our amusement, music written upon the posterior of one of the many tortured denizens of the rightmost panel of the painting which is intended to represent Hell,” Amelia wrote on her Tumblr. “I decided to transcribe it into modern notation, assuming the second line of the staff is C, as is common for chants of this era.”
Soon after, another Tumblr user took her discovery and created a choral arrangement complete with lyrics like “we sing from our asses while burning in purgatory.”
