Art Basel Hong Kong 2014: Expect Blue Chip Artworks, Lots of Them
2014-05-06 15:57:04 未知
A large blue Metallic Venus by Jeff Koons, La Femme du Crocodile bronze by Claude Lalanne, a large abstract oil on canvas byZao Wou-Ki and numerous Anthony Gormley sculptures — pouring through the pages of the Art Basel Hong Kong 2014 catalogue it is clear visitors are in for a treat this year with many galleries bringing in top-notch contemporary and modern artworks.
Bernier/Eliades Gallery will present the beautiful and intriguing laser-cut stainless steel sculpture, Slanted Dump Truck by Willem deFoe, while Blum & Poe will display Wicked Looking, a large sculpture by Yoshitomo Nara (Pace gallery will have another of his bronzes, Putting Out a Small Tongue, 2013). As usual there will be a peppering of Yayoi Kusama’s works, mainly older works like “Increment in the Spring, 1986 (at De Sarthe) or No. Red A.B.C., 1960 (at Mitchell-Innes & Nash), rather than the recent, and perhaps over-exposed, big flowers series.
Twentieth-century masters will be well represented too with numerous works by Marc Chagalland Pablo Picasso, as well as some by Henri Matisse, Modigliani, and Fernand Leger.
Gallerists must be banking that the minimalist works of Lucio Fontanawill appeal to buyers in Asia as the great Italian master’s works are presented by several galleries, including Galerie Karsten Grece, Mazzoleni Galleria d'Arte, and Tornabuoni Art.
Of the Asian artists, works by the late Chinese master Zao Wou-Kiare set to appear throughout the fair; Applicat-Prazan will have an oil on canvas, 14.05.97, 1997, while de Sarthe Gallery will have one of his untitled watercolors on paper, 1956, a stunning abstraction of pale blues. Marlborough Fine Art will have two pieces by Chu Teh-Chun, including a beautiful, and rare, hand-painted porcelain vase by the last master.
As expected, contemporary Chinese artists will be well represented in Hong Kong. Hanart Gallery is dedicating its space to Gu Wenda, whose work will also be at Gajah Gallery, while Gallery du Monde will present works by Liu Kuo-sung in an extension of a solo exhibition of the contemporary ink master it is holding in its Hong Kong gallery, and Galerie Ora-Ora will present a solo exhibition by another ink artist Peng Wei.
