DALLAS, TX.- A group of 24 personally owned objects from the personal collection of moonwalker Alan Bean sold for $625,375 in Heritage Auctions' $1.1+ million Space Signature Auction in Dallas May 14. The collection of 24 objects was led by a rare pair of Apollo 12 Lunar Module Flown and Surface-Used Scissors with Lanyard, which sold for $100,000.

"This auction signals the strength of Space collectibles, particularly those with rock solid provenance," Riley said. "The personal collection of moonwalker Alan Bean far exceeded even our highest expectations."

The Bean collection held a trove of rarities from the golden age of space travel, including an Apollo 12 Lunar Module Flown and Surface-Used Waist Strap sold for $93,750. A silver Apollo 17 Flown Silver Robbins Medallion from the collection reached $59,375. Making a rare auction appearance, an Apollo 12 Lunar Module Flown and Surface-Used Fisher AG-7 Space Pen sold for $53,125 to a bidder on the phone following interest from 17 competitors. A rare piece of life-or-death space equipment from the collection was an Apollo 12 Flown CM to LM Electrical Power "Umbilical" Cable, which was connected while on the way to the moon to supply power to the Lunar Module Intrepid from the Command Module. The chord saw action from five bidders before ending at $40,625.

In addition to the Collection of Alan Bean, the auction contained an Apollo 13 Flown and Apollo 14 Lunar Module Flown Complete Lunar Bible, "The Masonic Library Exhibit Copy." Officially referred to as "copy number 14-10," the 1.5" x 1.5" complete Microform Bible is one of only 12 Astronaut Flight-Certified Bibles of its kind and is the first published book ever carried by mankind to landfall on another celestial world. It was accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity Signed by Apollo 14 Lunar Module Pilot Ed Mitchell and Apollo Prayer League Representative James W. Stout and sold for $75,000.

"This particular copy of the Lunar Bible was not only flown, but flown twice and actually landed on the moon during Apollo 14, where it spent three days," Riley said.

A set of 20 printed black and white images that served as Apollo 13 Mission Commander James Lovell's Orbit Monitor Chart sold for $35,000. The map features Lovell's hand-written notations identifying a small triangular-shaped mountain near the Sea of Tranquility, which he named "Mt. Marilyn" after his wife.

Additional highlights include, but are not limited by:

• An Apollo Block II Command Module Flight Director Attitude Indicator from the North American Aviation Plant in Downey. Sold: $37,500.

• An Apollo 12 Flown Command Module Rotational Controller Handle (Alan Bean Collection). Sold: $32,500.

• An Apollo 11 Flown American Flag with Presentation Certificate ( Alan Bean Collection). Sold: $27,500.

• A Skylab II Flown and Worn Set of Inflight Jacket Patches from the Personal Collection of Mission Pilot Jack Lousma. Sold: $9,687.
