LONDON.- The leading fair for 20th century art, design and decorative arts, PAD returns to its elegant home on Berkeley Square from 15 to 19 October. For its 8th year in London, PAD will welcome 62 galleries from 10 countries worldwide, each recognised as authorities in their field. With the addition of 17 new exhibitors, the fair will offer a fresh and inspiring presentation of iconic and innovative pieces across all genres.
Modern art will be well represented with the addition of Daniel Blau (London/Munich) who will showcase a group of rediscovered drawings by Andy Warhol from the mid-1950s, and Robilant + Voena (London/Milan), whose highlights will include Concetto Spaziale Attese 1968, one of the final works by Lucio Fontana.
Three prominent galleries specialising in Tribal Art are also amongst the newcomers this year. Alain de Monbrison (Paris) and Galerie Flak (Paris) will present a broad spectrum of pieces from Africa, Oceania and the Americas whilst Lucas Ratton will place special emphasis on Congolese sculpture. One of the highlights for 2014 will be the addition of the French museum and porcelain factory, Sèvres – Cité de la céramique (Paris). Established in 1740, the historic institution will present commissioned works of contemporary ceramic art, produced in collaboration with designers such as Ettore Sottsass and Aldo Bakker. Further highlights include Katie Jones who will complement the fair’s eclectic spirit with the introduction of contemporary decorative arts from Japan.
Modern Brazilian design will make its first appearance at PAD with the arrival of Galerie James (Paris). Galerie Anne Sophie Duval (Paris), who played an active part in the rediscovery of French art deco design, together with ALB Antiquities will add to the post-war panorama.
This year, the PAD restaurant and bar will be conceived and designed by David Collins Studio. As the designers behind some of the world’s most exquisite interiors, including bars at The Connaught, The Berkeley and Claridge’s, their work will be featured at this elegant temporary space, including a tribute to the late interior designer David Collins.
On behalf of Moët Hennessy, a prestigious judging panel chaired by Jasper Conran and including Zaha Hadid, Julia Peyton-Jones, Nigel Coates and Tom Dixon will come together to select the winner of prizes in three categories. The Best Stand Award will be presented to exhibitors displaying originality and exceptional curatorial expertise alongside The Contemporary Design Award and The 20th Century Decorative Art Award for spectacular works in these fields.
With two prestigious fairs in Paris and London, PAD cultivates eclecticism, authenticity and connoisseurship with passion and flair. Its boutique setting is designed to inspire collectors, art consultants, museum experts, interiors specialists, design practitioners and the public, making PAD the only event of its kind.
