MARGATE.- This summer, Turner Contemporary is taking art outside with a new work by Dutch artist Krijn de Koning.
Wander into a colourful architectural labyrinth on our South Terrace, adjacent to the gallery.
Made especially for our Summer of Colour festival and Folkestone Triennial 2014, Koning’s Dwelling appears in Margate, at Turner Contemporary, and Folkestone, within a Victorian grotto on the seafront.
The coastal connections of the two sites and their history as popular destinations for leisure and tourism during the 19th and 20th centuries have inspired the works, playing on the traditional idea of seaside pavilions and beach huts.
This is the first time Turner Contemporary and Creative Foundation have collaborated together on an artist commission and de Koning's first public commission in England, making this a must-see this summer.
Dwelling (Margate / Folkestone) opened on 1 August at Turner Contemporary and on 30 August at Folkestone, to coincide with the opening of Folkestone Triennial 2014.
Dwelling is produced by Turner Contemporary for Folkestone Triennial 2014 and the Summer of Colour, with a grant from the Creative Foundation and with the support of Cultural Destinations and the Mondriaan Fonds.
