LONDON.- Independent curator and writer Fatos Ustek has been announced as the Art Fund Curator at fig-2, a revival of the seminal exhibition cycle fig-1, which presented 50 exhibitions in 50 weeks. Realised in association with Outset Contemporary Art Fund, fig-2 will launch at the ICA Studio on 5 January 2015, featuring a new generation of artists.

Fatos Ustek is Associate Curator for the 10th Gwangju Biennale, South Korea and guest tutor at Vision Forum, Linkopings Universitet, Sweden. She is member of AICA Tr and regular contributor to international art magazines and catalogues. She has curated an opera in five acts at the David Roberts Art Foundation (DRAF), London; an exhibition trilogy entitled Now Expanded that took place at Kunstfabrik, Berlin; Tent, Rotterdam and DRAF, London among various group shows in Europe and Turkey.

fig-1 was conceived and developed by Mark Francis and Jay Jopling in 2000. The title is specifically chosen in order to evoke an image which might be many different things, something singular, mysterious and unknown. fig-1 provided a new model for the presentation of contemporary art and presented projects by Jeremy Deller, Richard Hamilton, Runa Islam, Oliver Payne + Nick Relph, Will Self, Patti Smith, Caruso St. John, Philip Treacy, among others.

fig-1's exceptional quality lies in being able to capture the immediacy of an artist’s imagination, while drawing together a substantial and significant body of the most exciting contemporary art being made. 15 years on, selected for the quality and integrity of their work, fig-2 will bring together a stimulating and unusual variety of established and emerging artists, drawn from contemporary art to architecture, design, fashion, film, literature and performance. Details about the fig-2 programme will be announced in late-2014.
