Xavier Dectot is leaving his directorial post at the Louvre-Lens for the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh, where he will be in charge of the department of art and design, reports Gareth Harris of the Art Newspaper. His last day is March 31. A successor has not yet been appointed.
During his time at Louvre-Lens, Dectot curated many popular and scholarly exhibitions, among them “Gold and Ivory: Paris, Pisa, Florence, Siena 1250-1320” in 2015, and “Seeing the Sacred” in 2013. An expert in Medieval ceramics and sculpture, Dectot was at the Musee Cluny (Musée National du Moyen Age) for a time as well.
The Louvre-Lens, a branch of the Parisian museum, opened in 2012 on an old mining site. In 2015, 400,000 people visited Louvre-Lens. When the branch first opened, however, 900,000 visitors were recorded.
