
Tate Announces Highlights of 2017 Program

Tate has announced highlights of its 2017 program, including major exhibitions showcasing the work of artists including David Hockney, Wolfgang Tillmans, Rachel Whiteread, Emilia and Ilya Kabokov, Fahrelnissa Zeid, Alberto Giacometti, Amedeo Modigliani.
The Tate will also explore landmarks in the relationship between art and social history in the exhibitions “The EY Exhibition: Impressionists in London, French Artists in Exile, “Red Star Over Russia,” “Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power.”
The 2017 program begins with the world’s most extensive retrospective of the work of David Hockney at Tate Britain and a Wolfgang Tillmans retrospective at Tate Modern that focuses on the work produced in the 14 years since his major exhibition at Tate Britain.
Spring 2017 also marks the reopening of Tate St Ives with “The Studio & The Sea” and the opening of “We Have Your Art Gallery” at Tate Liverpool, which will hand over its special exhibition spaces to the public to take over and program.
April will mark the launch of the Tate Britain’s Queer British Art, the first major exhibition in Britain to focus on queer British art, followed shortly after in May by the launch of “Giacometti” at the Tate Modern which will focus on the artist’s influences and the development of his practice.
During Summer 2017, Tate Modern will present an exhibition examining the evolution of Turkish artist Fahrelnissa Zeid’s figurative and abstract work as well as the exhibition “Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power” – an exploration of “Black Art” in the United States from 1963-83.
Ending the year on a high, Autumn 2017 will feature the most comprehensive UK survey of the work of Amedeo Modigliani (1884-1920) at Tate Modern, which will also mark the centenary of the October Revolution with an exhibition of Russian and Soviet art titled “Red Star Over Russia.”
The Autumn 2017 program also includes a major exhibition of work by Rachel Whiteread at Tate Britain, a career-spanning retrospective of the work of Russian artists Ilya and Emilia Kabakov, and “The EY Exhibition: Impressionists in London, French Artists in Exile” at Tate Britain.
