I intercepted moments of living beings from a macro and micro perspective, then change the initial environment by transforming the state of matters. The change of role playing is a transition of perspectives as well as relationships. I use a variety of media to interpret the internal connections between everything staying in the ecosystem and let the concepts come naturally, exploring the meanings behind the concepts simultaneously.
As always, I have strived to establish an ideal criterion to abide by in order achieve the goal, never deviating, but the reality is always against my wishes. So I don’t pursue it any longer and unintentionally break away from thoughts, thus creating metaphysical metaphors."

About the Artist
张丹,1973年出生于黑龙江省大庆市。1999年毕业于鲁迅美术学院油画系并留校任教,现为鲁迅美术学院当代艺术系主任、副教授。张丹创作的总体思路往往是由瞬时的下意识动作作用于某种物,形成带有暗喻的生命体。生命、物质、世界、存在,这些形而上的关键词贯穿了张丹近年的创作。张丹的作品采用多元的材料和新技术摸索生命体的艺术表征,希求探讨生命与本体的外化,及其可能的过程。 近期个人展览包括:“生态剧场-张丹个展”(艺·凯旋画廊,北京,2020)、“多重宇宙”(崔振宽美术馆,西安,2019)、“鸟鸣涧:张丹纸上作品展”(瀚艺术空间,北京,2019)、“M花园”(宝龙美术馆,上海,2018)、“无所不在”(零艺术中心,北京,2016)等。 近期他参与的群展包括:“库里蒂巴双年展”(库里蒂巴,巴西,2019)、“The Outsider”(纽约市立大学皇后学院,纽约,2018)、“东西同行”(格拉斯哥美院画廊,格拉斯哥,2017)、“不同艺见”(辽宁美术馆,沈阳,2017)、“局外人”(奥斯陆大学艺术学院画廊,奥斯陆,2013)等。Zhang Dan was born in Daqing, Heilongjiang province, China in 1973. He graduated from the department of oil painting at Luxun Academy of Fine Arts in 1999. Currently, he is teaching at contemporary arts department at Luxun Academy of Fine Arts. The overall direction for his artistic creation is seizing an object with a spontaneous and subconscious gesture that renders it a living entity of a metaphor. Metaphysical words such as life, matter, universe, and existence are the key concept throughout the creation of Zhang Dan in recent years. The work by Zhang Dan adopts multiple medium and new technologies to explore the artistic representation of life, looking for exploring the externalization of life and ontology and its possible process.His latest solo exhibitions are, Eco-Theater (Triumph Gallery, Beijing, 2019), Meta-Universe (Cuizhenkuan Art museum, Xi’an, 2019), The Gully of Twittering Birds (Han Gallery, Beijing, 2019), M Garden (Powerlong Museum, Shanghai, 2018), Ubiquity (Zero Art Center, Beijing, 2016), etc.The recent group exhibitions he participated are, Curitiba Biennale (Nimeyer Museum of Art, Brazil, 2019), The Outsider (Queens College of the city, NY, 2018), East and West Walk Forward, (Gallery at the Glasgow School of Art, Glasgow, 2017), Different Artistic Opinions (Liaoning Art Museum, Shenyang, 2017), Out of Body (Gallery at Department of Arts of University Oslo, Oslo, 2013), etc.
