The Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco has announced the participating artists and programming for its upcoming triennial “Bay Area Now 7,” which will be on from July 18 through October 5. For this iteration of the triennial, YBCA invited local “small- to mid-size” arts organizations to apply to curate projects at the museum in what they are calling “an art fair style format.” This collaborative approach will see 15 groups bring work by nearly 200 Bay Area artists to the museum.

Among these are 2nd floor projects, Adobe Books Backroom Gallery, Chinese Culture Foundation of San Francisco, Creativity Explored, FOR-SITE Foundation, Pied-à-terre, and Stairwell’s from San Francisco; Bay Area Art Workers Alliance, Publication Studio, n/a, and Important Projects from Oakland; di Rosa from Napa; the Estria Foundation from Emeryville; Montalvo Arts Center from Saratoga; and San Quentin Prison Arts Project from San Quentin.

“Bay Area Now 7 is experimenting with a new approach to curating that highlights collaborations with our region’s artists and arts organizations and pushes beyond presentation toward a multidisciplinary celebration of the diversity of artistic practices in the Bay Area,” according to the press release.

In addition to the visual art component, YBCA has also organized a large program of performances, community engagement events, and film and video screenings.
