幻像之相——曾浩作品解析

曾浩生于上世纪六十年代中后期,动荡十年起始的年头。这个年代的人成长环境中充满了不可预知的危机与既魔幻又现实的荒诞,因此他们对大时代历史有着深刻的印记。随着改革开放及新思潮的涌入,“伤痕”渐次成为记忆。八十年代对于知识分子而言,是无比复杂的年代,理想主义的式微混杂着新时代的巨大变迁,多数人对存在与未来怀有巨大的疑问,从曾浩的作品中能清晰地看到这种疑问。总体而言,曾浩的作品基于对当代社会的戏谑性反诘,如策展人黄笃所言,“糅合着现实暗喻与形而上批判”,在泡影幻像之下,是艺术家对于新现实的观察与思考。

时代历史环境与艺术家的个人史决定了观念的表达。大学毕业后,曾浩在广东省肇庆学院美术学院从事了长达十五年的美术教学工作,在年近四十岁的时候方始决定以职业艺术家的身份专心从事绘画艺术创作。这意味着艺术家对艺术的巨大热情以及艺术对于艺术家的感召。事实上,在工作的过程中曾浩从未放弃过艺术创作,也一直在积极地关注中国当代艺术的发展,并时常参加当代艺术展览。曾浩敏感于时代,关注时事,因此作品从表象而言往往表现为社会学叙事,比如其泡泡系列作品就与2008年殃及全球的金融危机有直接关系,是对全球经济繁荣幻象背后泡沫化事实的隐喻。曾浩先后师从于艺术家张晓刚及尚扬,张晓刚的作品带有厚重的历史观,是对特定时代群体中的个体样本的关照,也是对个体存在的价值意义的反思。考量张晓刚及其支系,历史观、时代观及个体价值的反思一直贯穿其中,其深层隐藏着中国当代社群的精神变迁史。

曾浩的作品有历史叙事的痕迹,但更倾向于现实批判,所以往往以都市人文及社会景观为载体关照现代史中的“后殖民”、“全球化”以及“消费潮流”等现象,作品中的泡影及模糊甚至难以辨认的景观正是对这种华美的、膨胀的、易碎的、不确定的现代史疑虑。从艺术语言上而言,曾浩以一种超现实手法描绘了一个幻像中的真实世界,充满了欲望的幻像,而这些幻像恰如其分地表现了现代人易碎且不安的内心心相与现实生存状态。其装置作品则更直观地表达了艺术家的观念。

在格林伯格看来,新的社会批判和历史批判的出现,使得超越成为可能。曾浩的作品既是对现实的反思,亦是对希望的寻找,而这也正是当代艺术所试图去建构的文化图景,也是艺术家的文化宿命。

Under the Bubble - Analysis of Zeng Hao's Works

Zeng Hao was born in the mid to late 1960s, the beginning of the turbulent decade. The growing environment of people in this era is full of unpredictable crises and absurdities that are both magical and realistic. Therefore, they are deeply imprinted by the history of the great era. With the reform and opening up and the influx of new thoughts, "scars" have gradually become memories. The 1980s was an extremely complicated age for intellectuals, where the decline of idealism is mixed with the great changes of the new era. Most people have deep doubts about existence and the future. This kind of doubt can be clearly seen in Zeng Hao's works. Generally speaking, his works are based on Banter against contemporary society. As the curator Huang Du put it, “a combination of metaphors of reality and metaphysical criticism”, Under the bubble illusion, it is the artist's observation and thinking of the new reality.

The historical environment of the time and the artist's personal history determine the expression of concepts. After graduating from university, Zeng Hao engaged in fine arts teaching for 15 years at the Academy of Fine Arts, Zhaoqing University in Guangdong Province. When he was nearly forty years old, he decided to concentrate on painting and art creation as a professional artist. This indicates that artists have great enthusiasm for art and the appeal of art to artists. In fact, Zeng Hao has never given up on artistic creation during work, and has been actively paying attention to the development of contemporary Chinese art, and often participates in contemporary art exhibitions. Zeng Hao is sensitive to the times and concerns about current affairs. Therefore, his works often appear as sociological narratives. For example, his bubble series works are directly related to the global financial crisis in 2008, and are metaphors for the bubble fact behind the illusion of global economic prosperity.

In addition, Zeng Hao successively studied from the artists Zhang Xiaogang and Shang Yang. Zhang Xiaogang's works have a heavy historical outlook, which is a caring for individual samples in a specific era and a reflection on the value and significance of individual existence. In terms of Zhang Xiaogang and his branches, the historical view, the view of the times, and the reflection of individual values have been running through, which deeply hides the history of spiritual changes in contemporary Chinese communities. In contrast, although Zeng Hao’s works have traces of historical narrative, they are more inclined to criticize reality. Therefore, urban humanities and social landscapes are often used as carriers to care for phenomena such as "post-colonial", "globalization" and "consumption trend" in modern history. The bubbles and the vague and even illegible landscapes in the works are precisely the doubts about this gorgeous, expansive, fragile, and uncertain modern history. In terms of artistic language, Zeng Hao uses a surreal approach to depict the real world in an illusion, which is full of desire. These illusions appropriately represent the fragile and uneasy inner state of mind and reality of modern people. Furthermore, his installation works express the artist's concept in a more intuitive manner.

In the view of Greenberg, the emergence of new social and historical criticism makes transcendence possible. Zeng Hao’s works are both a reflection on reality and a search for hope. And this is exactly the cultural landscape that contemporary art is trying to construct, and is also the cultural fate of artists.
