Title: A Mini-Legend in Providence

Medium: Acrylic, wood, vacuum former

Size: 49"x25"x1.5"

Description: Inspired by abstract bronze sculptures by the French artist Henri Matisse, this is my first attempt to integrate the painting and sculpture by using vacuum former and acrylic paint. It is a true portrayal of my change while studying at Rhode Island School of Design during the pandemic. Once surrounded by the fragility and powerlessness of life, I stepped onto this new land. I felt her warm welcome, quietly soothing the anxiety and throbbing in my heart. I cross this river every day to go to school. In the evening, it is even more breathtakingly beautiful, and I often stroll along the river to watch the sunset until night falls. In my view, it is not only the most enchanting bit of romantic landscape of the city, but it also nurtures countless creatures underwater and nurtures the hearts of every person living here. During the Waterfire, The crackling flames, the scent of blazing cedar and pine, the flickering firelight on the arched bridges, the silhouettes of the fire tenders, the flotilla of performers traveling along the river in torch-lit vessels, and the extraordinary music from all over the world engage all of the senses and evoke emotions from the many thousands who come to the river walks. Unconsciously, I gradually possess the secret of peace of mind, and everything around me has begun to change. Yes, we can never be complacent about defending safe places to enjoy nature. With deep gratitude, I made this series of works.
