蔡万霖是中国变革时代一位独具特质的艺术家，他的人生经历、阅历，知识、学识，感知、认知，形成了他独特的艺术表达方式，构筑了他独树一帜的- yy的世界。

　　yy的世界--蔡万霖发出了“我从哪里来？我将到哪里去？今天的所作所为，为什么？为什么？（why why）”的提问。“why why”，蔡万霖以发自内心的提问并以yy这一艺术形象展开了与自己灵魂的对话。

　　这也可以说是蔡万霖以yy这个艺术形象与这个时代的对话。中国从农耕文明传统社会进入到工业文明现代社会，是社会形态的巨大转型，整体社会环境和社会生活方式都发生了根本性的变化。社会形态从缓慢的发展进程到急速的变化过程，以及社会急速的“物”化和相对缓慢的“文”化，都对当下人们“今天的所作所为”提出了许许多多的yy。

　　人类的情感是相通的，艺术无国界，亦可以说yy也是与我们所处的世界的对话。工业文明现代社会以市场经济联通全球，开启了全球化时代，急速地扩展了物质的生产和极大地提升了生活水平，但文化的交流和融合却出现了许许多多的阻碍和困难，甚至出现了文明的冲突。那么，yy就很自然地加入了进来，发出了它的提问。

　　这是一个变革的时代，变革的时代必定产生不同于以往的艺术家，产生具有变革时代特征的艺术作品。蔡万霖的yy，有其独特的艺术创作手法和独特的艺术表现形式，蔡万霖以其当下的情感和心境创作了其当下的艺术形象yy。蓝红黄橙黑白等少数几种颜色构建了简洁的画面，无嘴、无耳的yy似乎以一种隐喻的方式在向人们、向这个喧哗和复杂的世界表达着什么。蔡万霖在谈到自己的艺术创作时写道：“我们这个时代，经历了太多的精彩，同时也经历着应接不暇的变迁。随着信息产业的发展，快速的生活节奏、海量的社会信息对我们的精神生活带来冲击和考验。其实，在这样繁杂的生活中，我们需要宁静、智慧和快乐，所以，我更想以艺术的形式，尤其是在自己静下来的时候，与我的灵魂对话，自我叩问：我从哪里来？我将到哪里去？今天的所作所为，为什么？为什么？（why  why）？yy？的名字也由此而来”。

　　正觉正念，秉持着对艺术的虔诚，处在不断创造、不断转换中的蔡万霖，对艺术的追求一直贯穿于他的生活与工作中。而且，就是这种深入骨髓的艺术情怀，使得他对艺术创作变得越来越专一。

　　“神秘的色彩再次展现，我在那画布上专心挥洒--”《蔡万霖诗集》，我相信，作为一个时代的印记--蔡万霖的yy将以其独特的艺术魅力而走向世界。

　　yy‘s World： An Artist in an Era of Transformation--Cai Wanlin

　　Cai Wanlin is an artist with unique characteristics in the era of China’s transformation. Based on his life experience， his knowledge and learning as well as his perception and cognition， he has formed a unique way of artistic expression and constructed his unique world-yy‘s world.

　　In yy’s world， Cai Wanlin asked the questions “Where do I come from？ Where will I go？ What did I do today？ Why？ Why？” “Why？ Why？” Cai Wanlin asked from the bottom of his heart， and started a dialogue with his soul using the artistic image of yy.

　　This can also be said to be a dialogue between Cai Wanlin and this era with the artistic image of yy. China‘s transition from a traditional society of agricultural civilization to a modern society of industrial civilization is a huge transformation of the social form， and fundamental changes have taken place in the overall social environment and social lifestyle. The social form changed from the slow development process to the rapid development process. The rapid “materialization” and relatively slow “culturalization” of society has raised many questions about what people are doing today - yy (why， why).

　　Human emotions are interlinked， and art knows no borders， so it can be said that yy is also a dialogue we have with the world we live in. In the modern society of industrial civilization， the market economy connects the whole world， opening the era of globalization， rapidly expanding material production and greatly improving living standards. However， there have been many obstacles and difficulties in the exchange and integration of cultures， and even clashes of civilizations have appeared. Then， yy naturally joined in and sent out its questions.

　　This is an era of change， and the era of change will inevitably produce artists different from the past， and produce works of art with the characteristics of the transforming era. Cai Wanlin’s yy has its unique artistic creation techniques and unique artistic expressions. Cai Wanlin created his current artistic image of yy with his current emotions and mood. A few colors， such as blue， red， yellow， orange， black and white， create a simple picture. The mouthless and earless yy seems to be expressing something to people and to this noisy and complicated world in a metaphorical way. When talking about his artistic creation， Cai Wanlin wrote： “Our era has experienced too many excitements， but also experienced overwhelming changes. With the development of the information industry， the rapid pace of life and massive social information have brought impacts and tests to our spiritual life. In fact， in such a complicated life， we need tranquility， wisdom and happiness. Therefore， I want to talk to my soul in the form of art， especially when I calm down. I want to ask myself： Where do I come from？ Where will I go？ What did I do today？ Why？ Why？ The name ？yy？ also comes from this.”

　　With enlightenment and mindfulness， Cai Wanlin upholds his devotion to art. He is in constant creation and constant conversion， but his pursuit of art has always run through his life and work. Moreover， it is this deep-rooted artistic sentiment that makes him more and more dedicated to artistic creation.

　　“Mysterious colors are shown again， and I concentrate on that canvas-” he wrote this line in a poem collected in “Cai Wanlin‘s Poems”. I believe that， as a mark of an era， Cai Wanlin’s yy will go to the world with its unique artistic charm.
