前言
Preface

Childhood is a pivotal stage in the growth of every individual, characterized by boundless imagination and vibrant hues. Within this realm, we are free to explore, create, and express our innermost thoughts. This exhibition transports us back to that irreplaceable era of innocence, serving as a poignant reflection on childhood memories and the developmental process.
Wu Liangyan, who was influenced by his father’s role as an educator, embarked on an early exploration of educational issues in his works. The artist exhibits profound thoughtfulness, and through several exchanges with him, we can deeply sense his yearning for the experiences of childhood. Through his distinctive sculptural language and artistic techniques, he presents before us the enchanting beauty of childhood and the unique moments that shape our lives. The red scarf and big head doll serve as iconic symbols in his artistry, representing not only his deep affection and homage to childhood memories but also the collective memory and shared experiences spanning multiple generations. Within his exaggerated artistic creations, a keen attention to individual differences and developmental needs permeates the entire creative context while emphasizing the impact of both spear and shield. Although each big head baby shares similar rosy cheeks, they possess distinct characteristics mirroring every child’s singular development and individuality. The painting series Study Hard showcases primary school textbooks spanning from the Republic of China era to recent times, representing a collective memory shared by multiple generations. Through artistic recreation, the artist captures both familiar and unfamiliar imprints left on these textbooks over time, reflecting changes in educational practices
throughout different eras. Lastly, the National Treasure series embodies the artist’s profound yearning for unity between heaven and humanity, harmony within our world, as well as harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
In this exhibition, Di Yuan curatorial team has meticulously curated over 80 sculptures and installations, strategically placed both inside and outside the museum’s exhibition hall as well as in the public areas of the scenic spot. Our aim is to provide you with a truly unique artistic journey that evokes profound childhood memories and emotional resonance. Together, let us immerse ourselves in this state of innocence, reevaluate our own selves and the world through these artworks, and rediscover the dreams and courage we once possessed during our childhood years. May everyone retain their youthful spirit and find their personal “childhood” within.
