Epilogue
As the winter solstice approaches, when the bleak recoils, unfurls the warmth. By virtue of the primordial force, the law of nature manifests her booming power. This year dies out though, but brand-new days stretch on their long journey; the winter chill abating spans far and wide to the extreme. Time has passed beyond expectation, and misfortune goes extinct, fortune trots about. Upon the mood of leisure, I incorporate both poems and prose with a heart free of troubles and a mind embracing the universe, expressing my sentiments through ink and brush. On the pure-cloud-like paper, I composed odes to sages with passion and creativity in words imbued with spiritual essence. The universe unfolds orderly with all the creatures coexisting, a viable scenery looming with agility onto the paper. Also in this winter month, my solo exhibition was initiated. As Mr. Jian Ning invited my wife and me to attend the Autumn Action of Qishi, we drove along Chang'an Street, experiencing the grandeur of the National Museum and feeling its awe-inspiring energy. An idea was thus born, to hold an exhibition in the National Museum in the name of “Cultures Converge.”
Initially, I established the narrative frame of oriental aesthetics through painting, synchronizing them with odes and prose to pass on the cultural heritage of China. This began in the winter month following the year of the pandemic, starting with incorporating poems and prose of Su Dong-Po into my paintings and later with the symposium of Confucius and Old Master in the Metropolis Luo. Later, Mr. Cao Wei-De, the king of global shipping, invited me to exchange ideas at the Sangha Retreat in Suzhou City. We drank joyfully, though memories went fragmented and composure might have dissolved. The next day, during breakfast with Mr. Xue Lin, we proposed, “A sage to the west and a sage to the east, could they mark the trace of the five elements?” Sober up on the way back to Beijing, I followed the proposal and afterward completed the series of SU Dong-Po, Old Master, and Confucius.
This time, though in deep winter, I enjoyed the warm tea at home. Boil the snow to make a cup of tea -- feel the chilling coldness, on one hand, and, on the other, the stream-like warmth from sun mother. Winter solstice welcomed the return of light and the balance of clouds and sun, heaven and earth in harmony. The awakening of passion and creativity, no longer suffering from the pandemic, celebrated the coming new year!
The gnomon indicated that the summer solstice arrived; the coldness arose as the hotness withdrew. The length of the day reached its peak, as cicadas were chirping and the winds furled. I have been creating this painting style for seven years, and as the saying goes, “Change comes every seven years!” Hence, with the summarizing exhibition at the National Museum of China, I am entering a new realm of "removing color by evaporating it back to a status more natural."
Reaching the extreme is achieving the ultimate, and what has been achieved will be the reason for the things following. Mr. LI Gui-Lin of the Top Health Medical Group supported my endeavor by recommending Dr. CHEN Dong-Liang. Dr. CHEN understands my thoughts and also deems the theme of the famous prose, Calming the Waves, as enduring hardships still with benevolence. They have thus helped immensely with this exhibition at the National Museum of China. Later, I met Mr. Ishida, who appreciated my paintings as "boundless." So, he would like to compose the opening chapter to introduce my paintings worldwide. Viewers of my paintings might occasionally feel joy, sorrow, or peace, and experience some healing effect. Many honorable friends have bolstered this exhibition with divine grace crystal clear in spirit resonance. Here comes this humble verse to express my heartfelt thanks to all of you.
