An lmmersive Contemporary Art and Lifestyle Aesthetics Exhibition
Art serves as the imprint of an era, a dazzling gem after the wash of time. As we traverse the world's major museums and art galleries, we embark on an infinite journey across time and civilizations, where we witness the boundless possibilities captured by Eastern and Western masters.
Art is a bridge of time, spanning history and reality, connecting classics and innovations. The current exhibition, "Tribute to the Masters: An lmmersive Contemporary Art and Lifestyle Aesthetics Exhibition," organized by MUSEUMS & GALLERIES, a pioneering artistic and fashionable lifestyle brand, integrates world-class museum culture with modern popular objects, bringing the beauty of art back into modern life through creative design.
During the exhibition, five contemporary artists who excel in both Eastern and Western arts—Chen Qingyong, Cong Yunfeng, Li Qiubai, Wang Jinzhi, and Xie Yongsheng—were invited to interpret and tribute to the masters from a fresh perspective. Together with MUSEUMS & GALLERIES, they presented rich artistic connotations and diverse creations through three themes. Through replications of masterpieces and displays of contemporary artworks, we engaged in a visual and intellectual dialogue within the space of Mu Art Space.
The first part, "East Encounter West," revolves around the theme of mutual appreciation among cultures, exhibiting Wang Jinzhi's rock-color paintings, Cong Yunfeng's wooden panel temperas, and Chen Qingyong's ancient brick paintings, among others, embodying the unique aesthetic of artistic fusion. It also triggers a historical review of the 18th-century trend known as "Chinoiserie."
The second part, "Splendid Ink and Color," focuses on Chinese art masters and intangible cultural heritage. The Xiling Seal Engravers’ Society, representing seal cutting culture, offers a seal experience, while immersive scenes featuring Wu Guanzhong's classic splash-ink and dot-color elements are displayed. Additionally, there is an immersive light and shadow experience, as well as workshops of intangible cultural heritage treasures, allowing visitors to understand the beauty of Chinese traditional art through various forms and mediums.
The third part, "Master Impressions," pays homage to Western Impressionists while showcasing how contemporary artists Li Qiubai and Xie Yongsheng continue and reshape classics in new contexts.
At the end of the last part, a series of collectible fridge magnets featuring derivative works by the masters were displayed, providing a means for visitors who pursue art and beauty to collect them. Furthermore, the William Morris-themed café embodies MUSEUMS & GALLERIES's core mission as a lifestyle brand carrying world-class cultural and artistic content, bringing the "beauty of art" and "fashionable living" to people's lives and conveying the essence of "carrying culture through objects, hoping for innovation."

East Encounter West
Harmony and Coexistence
The first section focuses on the mutual influence and integration of Eastern and Western painting traditions. Here, we have invited three contemporary artists: Wang Jinzhi, who employs the ancient technique of rock-color painting to present the unique charm of the East; Cong Yunfeng, who creates contemporary landscape scenes using the Western medium of wood panel tempera; and Chen Qingyong, who meticulously "crafts landscapes" with ink on ancient bricks, all showcasing the unique aesthetic beauty brought about by the fusion of artistic civilizations.
Additionally, this section also weaves together a historical retrospective on the 18th-century European aesthetics, known as "Chinoiserie," taking us through time to experience the enthusiasm and imitation of Chinese artistic styles by Europe during that era, as well as how this trend has been cleverly utilized in modern design.

Wang Jinzhi's works draw heavily from Japanese aesthetics, particularly wabi-sabi, yuugen, and mono no aware, creating innovative pieces for a new generation based on traditional rock-color media. By integrating the painting style of contemporary China's beauty, he introduces the world to more novel rock-color paintings, thereby showcasing the beauty of Chinese culture.
Wang Jinzhi incorporates the brushwork and expressive imagery of Chinese painting into his rock-color paintings, allowing them to retain their unique style while also presenting the charm of traditional Chinese culture. Through his rich color choices and unique material expressions, his paintings, like Impressionist oil paintings, pursue the effects of light and shadow changes and color contrast.

After meticulously observing traditional Chinese ink paintings, Chen Qingyong chose to "fabricate" landscape paintings on ancient bricks from the Ming and Qing dynasties using his unique artistic language. Following the undulations and gullies on the bricks, he employed intricate lines to depict mountains, rivers, and trees. The "Fabricating Landscapes" series on Ming and Qing bricks not only highlights the patina and natural textures that have emerged after years of weathering but also releases the warmth contained within the bricks' imperfections and gullies. These traces subtly overlay their original appearance, and the final fixed images evoke memories of the past and the present. Between deconstructing and reconstructing the scenes, they present a cultural phenomenon where geographical space and historical time are juxtaposed.

The "Overflow of Taiyi" series integrates traditional motifs from Persian miniatures, Indian miniatures, and Chinese paintings, using the traditional tempera material from European painting as the medium. It dissects and reconstructs forms and textures from various cultures to explore the universal principles behind different cultures.
Influenced by the monochrome black and white of Chinese ink painting, Cong Yunfeng's series features a central octagonal shape surrounded by two layers of identical octagons, with this structure repeating to form a seemingly infinite pattern, symbolizing a process of constant expansion or flow. He aims to combine Chinese ink painting with Western tempera material to present a fusion of cultures.

Eastern Dreams
This is a historical retrospect on the 18th-century "Chinoiserie," a European trend inspired by Chinese aesthetics. The presented items are innovative designs that draw inspiration from classic museum illustrations and patterns, transforming them into everyday objects.
Chinoiserie was an artistic and cultural movement prevalent in Europe during the 18th century, showcasing a profound interest in Chinese art and culture. This style was not a mere replication of Chinese art but a unique European interpretation of Chinese elements, often blending Chinese motifs with European aesthetics and craftsmanship. Designs frequently featured elements such as dragon patterns, landscapes, and floral-bird motifs, imbued with whimsical ideas and romantic sentiments. To this day, the influence of Chinoiserie can still be seen in modern design, continuing to inspire creators to blend Eastern and Western cultures in unique and imaginative ways.

Splendid Ink and Color
Calligraphy and Inscription
The second chapter focuses on showcasing renowned Chinese traditional art societies and their master artists. The Xiling Seal Society, known as the "Most Famous Society in the World," was founded in the 30th year of Emperor Guangxu's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1904). With the mission of "preserving inscriptions on metal and stone, researching seal studies, and encompassing calligraphy and painting," the society has collected a vast amount of artworks related to inscriptions on metal and stone, calligraphy, and painting over the past hundred years, preserving a wealth of physical historical materials for Chinese seal cutting and even modern art history. The interactive seal-collecting experience during the exhibition will also present a seal inspired by the paintings of Wu Changshuo, the first president of the Xiling Seal Society, depicting pomegranates symbolizing "may all things be as you wish."

Ancient but Contemporary Chapter
Wu Guanzhong integrated both Chinese and Western painting techniques and devoted himself to the practice of nationalizing oil painting. His oil paintings are refreshing, bright, and rich in national characteristics and lyrical expressions. Later, he engaged in the innovation of ink painting, creating works that lie between the concrete and the abstract, emphasizing the rhythmic interplay of dots, lines, and ink blocks. Here, the splash-ink and dot-color elements from Wu Guanzhong's paintings engage in a dialogue with the outdoor landscape in the space, presenting a contemporary Chinese painting scroll that embodies classical charm.

Master Impressions
Dialogue to the Classic
In this section, we proudly present the works of participating artist Xie Yongsheng alongside two plush art installations. Through oil painting, Xie Yongsheng pays homage to Impressionist masters, skillfully integrating modern aesthetic elements into his portraiture. His creations demonstrate how contemporary artists extend and reshape these classical traditions within a modern context, reinvigorating them with new brilliance.
Van Gogh's monumental *Sunflowers* and Monet's *Water Lilies* engage in a dramatic interplay with staggered plush floral arrangements. While faithfully evoking the vibrant botanical vitality captured by the masters, the installations simultaneously deconstruct these iconic paintings through tactile softness, bridging the dimensions from visual appreciation to sensory interaction. Visitors are invited to immerse themselves within the paintings, capturing their own impressionist moments as the eternal dance of light and shadow undergoes contemporary reinterpretation through the fusion of reality and illusion.
"Homage to Masters," a series of famous paintings created by Xie Yongsheng in recent years, is one of his signature works. Since his first encounter with painting, the works of masters have taken root in his heart. While feeling awe and admiration, he has also been contemplating how to reproduce the masterpieces of artistic giants in his own painting style.
By deeply observing and interpreting master-level portrait paintings, such as those by Vincent van Gogh that depict figures with emotional and vital brushstrokes, Xie Yongsheng draws inspiration and cleverly integrates these classic elements with contemporary aesthetic trends to create new works that pay homage to the originals while possessing a unique style. In his paintings, he adopts cartoonish expressions, cute and accessible image designs, and incorporates innovative creative concepts.
