《Rebirth: The Cycle and Meaning of Life》Joint Exhibition of Chinese and Foreign Artists

2025年4月20日下午2：00，“重生《生命的循环与意义》”将于北京朝阳傲云·渐空间盛大开幕。本次展览以“重生”为主题，邀请来自苏格兰的艺术家Joseph Stewart及夫人艺术家罗涛女士和中国青年艺术家张琳通过水彩、水墨、雕塑和艺术装置等不同的表达形式，共同探讨生命循环的奥秘，以及人类与自然、思想与文化的深层链接。

On April 20, 2025, at 2:00 PM, exhibition《Rebirth: The Cycle and Meaning of Life》will be grandly unveiled at Aoyun Jian Space, Beijing. Centered on the theme of "Rebirth", this exhibition brings together Scottish artist Joseph Stewart, his wife and artist Ms. Luo Tao, and emerging Chinese artist Zhang Lin. Through diverse mediums—including watercolor, ink painting, sculpture, and art installations—their works collectively explore the mysteries of life’s cyclical nature and delve into the profound connections between humanity and nature, as well as the interplay of thought and culture.

Artists and Works Introduction

约瑟夫·斯图尔特（Joseph Stewart）是一位苏格兰教师兼艺术家，主要使用水性介质进行创作。他通过融合人类与自然的意象来探索二者间的动态关系，并致力于用插画展现不同的文化视角与智慧结晶。约瑟夫出身于一个跨国大家庭，亲属中包含葡萄牙、美国、马来西亚、苏格兰和华人血统。自幼浸润在多元文化环境中的经历，激发了他对国际意识的毕生追求。

Joseph Stewart is a Scottish teacher and artist who works predominantly with water-based media.  Joseph creates images combining humans and nature to explore the dynamics between them.  He also aims to use illustrations to explore different cultural perspectives and wisdoms.  Joseph comes from an international family that includes Portuguese, American, Malaysian, Scottish and Chinese relatives.  The experience since childhood of being surrounded by different cultural perspectives began a lifelong interest in international mindedness.

罗涛，国际学校艺术课程老师及艺术家，毕业于英国格拉斯哥美院。 她的作品探索了人类与自我和自然世界的关系。经常以沉浸在自然环境中的个人肖像的形式，在和平与孤独的珍贵时刻。她借鉴自己的生活经验探讨佛教家庭中的动态和相互关系，不同生命形式之间的联系。她的作品主要是大幅油画或雕塑，用大规模的笔触来传达强烈的情感。

Luo Tao is an art teacher and artist, graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in the UK. Her work explores the relationship between humans, the self, and the natural world, often taking the form of individual portraits immersed in natural environments to capture precious moments of peace and solitude. Drawing from her lived experiences, she examines the dynamics and interrelationships within Buddhist families, as well as connections between different life forms. Her creations primarily consist of large-scale oil paintings or sculptures, employing bold, expansive brushstrokes to convey intense emotional resonance.

张琳，字明理，青年艺术家，金融书法家协会会员、金融美术家协会会员、金融女画家艺术研究会会员、金融画院文人书画院副院长、中国书画收藏家协会会员、北京金融美术家协会副秘书长、北京海淀美术家协会会员、北京国画艺术家协会会员会员、中广联合会书画摄影委员会会员。2024年7月在兰州报恩寺举办“墨韵禅心”个人禅画展。

Zhang Lin, styled Mingli, is a young artist and member of multiple prestigious organizations: the Financial Calligraphers Association; Financial Artists Association; Financial Female Artists Research Society; Vice President of the Literati Painting and Calligraphy Academy at Financial Painting Academy; member of the Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Collectors Association; Deputy Secretary-General of the Beijing Financial Artists Association; member of Beijing Haidian Artists Association; member of Beijing Traditional Painting Artists Association; and member of the Painting, Calligraphy, and Photography Committee of the China Radio and Television Federation. In July 2024, she held her solo Zen painting exhibition "Ink Rhythms, Zen Heart" at Lanzhou Bao'en Temple.

在这场艺术与哲思交织的展览中，艺术家们以多元的创作语言，诠释着生命的双重维度：既有血肉之躯的顽强再生，亦有精神世界的涅槃重塑。他们以文化基因中的独特智慧，构建起跨越时空的对话。苏格兰创作者擅长以理性解剖重生：用细致的显微镜下的真实的皮肤展现其强有力的修复生命力，以及通过画笔或雕塑表达人类与万物生灵的关系，世间万物皆有灵，敬畏自然，共筑和谐的心声。

而中国艺术家则从“天人合一”的古老哲思出发，在她笔下，蛇不再是冰冷的自然生灵，而是被赋予了人类的思想与情感，成为传递人生哲理的载体。水墨的浓淡干湿之间，一条灵蛇或挥毫泼墨，或举杯畅饮，象征着智慧与文化的传承，演绎着洒脱与豁达的人生；壁虎、蝉、蝴蝶、青蛙等各种生灵在她的笔下都赋予更多的生活禅，通过拟人化的手法，映射人类的社会、思想与情感，表达了生命意义的多元与深邃。

所谓“重生”，既是生命个体的宿命轮回，更是文明在碰撞中孕育的崭新可能。当水墨的“留白”遇见水彩的“叠染”，当雕塑的冷峻拥抱玻璃的晶莹，我们得以窥见：个体生命的创伤愈合与文明脉络的延续传承，本质上皆是向死而生的艺术。展览中的每件作品都是一面棱镜，将“重生”这一永恒命题折射出万千光华。

此刻，请允许这些作品成为渡你过河的舟楫。在恐龙的骨骼与数码像素的交响中，在宣纸纤维与笔触摩擦的共振里，你会发现：重生从来不是简单的重复，而是生命以更丰饶的姿态，在毁灭的灰烬中，完成对永恒的深情注释。

Here, art meets philosophy. The artists show two sides of rebirth: the body’s power to heal and the mind’s power to grow. Their dialogues transcend time and space with unique wisdom. Scottish artists focus on science and detail. They zoom in on skin’s healing magic and sculpt connections between people and nature, whispering, "Everything has a soul—respect the nature."

Chinese artists paint with ancient philosophy of "harmony between heaven and humanity." Snakes are not merely animals; they are symbols of human wisdom and emotion. In ink washes, a snake might dance with a brush or toast with a wine cup, celebrating life’s freedom. Geckos, cicadas, butterflies, and frogs teach Zen in life, mirroring human joys and struggles, showing how complex yet beautiful life is.

Rebirth is to live again, for cultures to learn from each other. When Chinese ink’s empty spaces blend with watercolor’s layers, when stone sculptures meet glass’s glow, we see that life forces and cultural succession are both acts of rebirth. Every artwork here is a window into rebirth’s many colors.

Let these pieces guide you. Between dinosaur bones and digital glows, in the whisper of rice paper and brushstrokes, you may feel that rebirth is not repeating the past. It is life rising from ashes, stronger and more radiant than before.
