CHEN KE ZHI — Oriental Aesthetics, Global Resonance: Exemplary Figure in Cultural Globalization

Chen Kezhi is a renowned Chinese artist, National First-Class Artist, recipient of Special Government Allowance of the State Council. He serves as President of the Painting and Calligraphy Academy of the Central Committee of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party, Research Fellow of Beijing Municipal Institute of Culture and History, President of Oriental Oil Painting Academy, President of Beijing Oriental Painting and Calligraphy Research Association, Vice President of China International Research Association of Painting and Calligraphy Art, Chairman of Expert Committee of Overseas Chinese Culture Special Fund Committee under China Arts Festival Foundation, Chairman of Washington Artists Association of the United States, Co-Chairman of North Pacific Union of Arts and Letters, Art Consultant to Federation of Literary and Art Circles of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Permanent Honorary President of Hong Kong International Painters, Calligraphers and Collectors Association.

He joined China Artists Association in 1988. In 1996, his biography was included in Who's Who in the World published by Cambridge of Britain and Encyclopedia of America.

Works of Chen Kezhi are collected by museums and galleries at home and abroad including National Museum of China, the Great Hall of the People, National Art Museum of China, Memorial Hall of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Olympic Museum in Switzerland, Lincoln Arts Center in the United States, as well as numerous private collectors. His works have been exhibited in the National Art Museum of China and all over the world. He has published dozens of works such as Teaching Models for Masters in Chinese Higher Art Institutions and Peace Manifesto in Poetry and Painting. He is an academically influential oil painter, traditional Chinese painter and calligrapher.

In 1987, Winter Dawn won the China Oil Painting Award at the 1st China Oil Painting Exhibition held by China Artists Association.

In 1997, Morning Melody of the Three Gorges became the first oil painting collected and displayed in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

In 2000, Spirit of the Yangtze River – Three Gorges Trackers won the Gold Medal (ranking first) of the Galaxy Award issued by the Ministry of Culture of China.

In 1993, he received an exclusive character interview on Oriental Horizon program of CCTV.

In 2007, he held a solo exhibition at the National Art Museum of China.

In 2011, he was awarded Canada Dayar International Lifetime Art Achievement Award.

In 2018, he was conferred the title of “Cultural Ambassador for Peace” by the United Nations and relevant institutions.

In 2019, he obtained the Honorary Trophy of “China-Europe Art Exchange Ambassador” awarded by France International Philatelic Center.

In 2020, he won the Beijing Xinguang Life Art Highest Award.

Chen Kezhi said: “Without imagination, there is no art.” Possessing extensive knowledge and consummate artistic skills, he consistently integrates Chinese and Western arts. His artistic style carries an oriental temperament that combines classicism and modern awareness, and he is famous for paintings on historical figures and humanistic themes. With his thoughts and creations, Chen Kezhi explores brand-new art filled with historical, natural and philosophical significance. Relying on his personal painting language that transcends races and national boundaries, his works show care for the values concerning the destiny of mankind and reflection on the future.

Influenced by profound family cultural education since childhood, he took part in adult art exhibitions from the age of ten. He graduated from the Oil Painting Major of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 1982. Edified by Eastern and Western civilizations and traditions, he integrates oil painting, traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy, and regards ideology and philosophy as the direction of his artistic creation and research. His cultural exploration is setting a new milestone and writing a brand-new cultural chapter for the new history of world painting.

陈可之简介

中国著名艺术家。一级美术师，获国务院政府津贴，中国农工民主党中央书画院院长，北京市政府文史馆馆员，东方油画院院长，北京东方书画研究会会长，中国国际书画艺术研究会副会长，中国艺术节基金会华侨文化专项基金委员会专家委员会主席、美国华盛顿美术家协会主席，北美太平洋文艺联盟共同主席，中国科学院文联美术协会顾问，香港国际书画家收藏家协会永远名誉会长。1988 年加入中国美术家协会，1996 年分别入英国剑桥和美国大百科全书《世界名人录》。

陈可之作品由中国国家博物馆、大会堂、中国美术馆、中国人民抗日战争纪念馆、瑞士奥林匹克博物馆、美国林肯艺术中心等中外美术馆博物馆及私人收藏，并中国美术馆及世界各地展览，出版《中国高等艺术院校名师教学范本》、《诗与画的和平宣言》等数十种著作。是具有学术影响力的油画家，国画家和书法家。

1987 年《冬日晨曦》获中国美协第一届中国油画展中国油画奖，1997 年《三峡晨曲》为北京大会堂收藏陈列的第一幅油画，2000年《长江魂-三峡纤夫》获国家文化部群星奖金奖 ( 名列第一 )，1993 年中央电视台《东方时空》栏目人物专访，2007 年在中国美术馆举办个展， 2011 年获加拿大“大雅文化国际终身艺术成就奖”， 2018 年获联合国等授予“和平文化大使”称号，2019 年获法国国际邮品中心“中欧艺术交流大使”荣誉奖杯，2020 年获北京心光生命艺术最高奖。

陈可之说， “没有想象就没有艺术”。他思想广博、技艺精湛，中西融汇是其一贯风格，作品散发出古典主义和现代意识的东方气派，以历史人物和人文绘画著称于世。陈可之用他的思想与作品拓展着蕴含历史自然和哲学意义的崭新艺术，以个人绘画语言跨越种族国界，关怀人类命运价值观以及未来之问。
