SUZHOU, CHINA–On August 30, 2026, following three years of meticulous preparation, the Suzhou Museum of Contemporary Art (Suzhou MoCA) will officially open to the public. Nestled by the scenic banks of Jinji Lake and designed by the renowned Danish architecture firm BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group), this new cultural landmark will debut a four-month inaugural art season themed “Suzhou in Beautiful MoCAment” (August 30–December 31). Four major inaugural exhibitions, a series of successive shows, nearly 100 public education programs, and citywide art collaborations will unfold in sequence, weaving together a multi-dimensional dialogue between classical and contemporary, East and West, technology and humanity, and inviting audiences on an artistic journey across time and space.

千年名城的新地标

A New Landmark for a Millennia-Old City

苏州当代美术馆由丹麦BIG建筑事务所设计，总建筑面积5.95万平方米，展厅面积约1.13万平方米，坐落于苏州工业园区右岸街99号，紧邻金鸡湖与“苏州之眼”摩天轮。作为苏州工业园区全力打造“四个一流”的重要文化载体，美术馆的建成开放填补了苏州在现当代艺术领域大型公立美术馆的空白，也为这座积淀深厚的历史文化名城，注入了全新的当代美学活力。2026年，苏州当选“东亚文化之都”；值此城市文化蓬勃发展的黄金节点，苏州当代美术馆正式开馆，以艺术季之名向世界发出一份新的邀请。

Designed by BIG, Suzhou MoCA spans a total construction area of 59,500 square meters, with approximately 11,300 square meters of exhibition space. Situated at 99 You’an Street in Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP), it sits adjacent to Jinji Lake and the “Suzhou’s Eye” Ferris Wheel. As a key cultural initiative aligned with SIP’s “Four First-Class” strategy, the museum addresses a significant void in Suzhou’s contemporary art landscape by establishing a large-scale public institution. This historically rich city now benefits from a dynamic infusion of contemporary aesthetic vitality. In 2026, Suzhou was designated as the “Culture City of East Asia”. At this pivotal moment of urban cultural flourishing, Suzhou MoCA officially opens its doors, extending a fresh invitation to the world in the spirit of art.

120 Days, Four Major Exhibitions: Connecting Suzhou to the World

开馆艺术季分两个阶段，首批向公众开放四大展览，分别对应全球艺术经典、中国当代艺术、科技艺术与建筑艺术四条线索。其中“毕加索及其影响的世界”与“亘：艺术的穿越方式”双展驱动，在文明互鉴的视野中铺就开馆季的艺术格局。

The inaugural art season is organized into two phases, with the first phase opening to the public four major exhibitions, each reflecting a specific theme: global artistic classics, Chinese contemporary art, tech-art, and architectural art. Headlined by the dual exhibitions “Picasso and the World of His Influence” and “Gèn: A Journey Through Art’s Transcendence”, this season sets the stage for an artistic exploration rooted in mutual cultural appreciation.

作为开馆季的经典艺术展览之一，“毕加索及其影响的世界”以毕加索在世界版画艺术史中最具影响力的“沃拉尔组画”为原点，向后延伸至大卫·霍克尼、赵无极、乔治·康多等欧洲、亚洲、美洲等地的艺术家，以作品构建起“大师本尊—后世回响”的新叙事。“沃拉尔组画”创作于1930至1937年，耗时七年，被誉为“二十世纪版画的巅峰之作”与毕加索的“纸上自传”，曾于2014年在中国国家博物馆展出。时隔十二载，这套经典之作再度与中国观众相逢，落地苏州。

As one of the highlights of the inaugural season, “Picasso and the World of His Influence” centers on Picasso’s most influential print series in art history—The Vollard Suite. This exhibition extends to artists from Europe, Asia, and the Americas, including David Hockney, Zao Wou-Ki, and George Condo, weaving a new narrative of “The Master and His Echoes” through their works. Created between 1930 and 1937, The Vollard Suite is celebrated as “the pinnacle of 20th-century printmaking” and is regarded as Picasso’s “autobiography on paper”. Previously showcased at the National Museum of China in 2014, this classic collection is returning to Chinese audiences, now taking residence in Suzhou after twelve years.

“亘：艺术的穿越方式”由全国政协委员、北京画院院长吴洪亮策划，集结黄永玉、徐冰、周春芽、施慧、隋建国、张晓刚、丁乙等27位/组艺术家的代表性作品，其中多件为艺术家为美术馆特别创作。“亘”字取形于“二”与“回”，“二”象天地乾坤之序，“回”似风轮周行不息，蕴含阴阳宣通、天地交泰的东方哲思。展览以这一东方时空观为精神内核，与美术馆回形螺旋的建筑形制彼此呼应，意蕴与空间浑然相生。

“Gèn: A Journey Through Art’s Transcendence” is curated by Wu Hongliang, a member of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and the Director of the Beijing Fine Art Academy. This exhibition unites representative works from 27 artists, including Huang Yongyu, Xu Bing, Zhou Chunya, Shi Hui, Sui Jianguo, Zhang Xiaogang, and Ding Yi, many of which were specially created for the museum. The character “亘”(Gèn) is composed of “二” (èr) and “回” (huí); where “二” (èr) signifies the order of heaven and earth, and “回” (huí) symbolizes the endless circulation of wind and clouds, embodying the Eastern philosophical concept of the harmonious flow of Yin and Yang. Centered on this Eastern perspective of time and space, the exhibition resonates with the museum’s spiral architecture, creating a harmonious relationship between meaning and space.

展览由“俯仰”与“来回”两部分组成：“俯仰”引导观众向过去探寻，沿着6000年草鞋山遗址的文明曙光、3000年吴越文化交融、600年吴门画派风雅、30年苏州工业园区发展的时代华章四个时间刻度，铺就一条穿越古今的时空隧道；“来回”则回归脚下的土地与身边的个体，聚焦深具中国精神内核的传统书画、融合东方意蕴的现当代油画及观念装置作品，传递贴近本土的人文温度与“在地性”关怀。

The exhibition consists of two sections: “Looking Up and Down” and “Back and Forth”. “Looking Up and Down” invites audiences to delve into the past, tracing four significant temporal markers—the dawn of civilization at the 6,000-year-old Caoxieshan site, the confluence of 3,000-year-old Wu and Yue cultures, the elegance of the 600-year Wu School of painting, and the remarkable development of the Suzhou Industrial Park over the last 30 years—forming a temporal tunnel through past and present. “Back and Forth” returns to the local land and personal experiences, spotlighting traditional calligraphy and painting that embody the essence of Chinese spirit, as well as modern and contemporary oil paintings and conceptual installations that integrate Eastern sensibilities. This section emphasizes a humanistic warmth and a sense of “locality” that is deeply rooted in the community.

两大展览彼此映照：毕加索颠覆与重构了欧洲艺术传统，中国艺术家则以东方的超越性为世界注入全新时空观。置身于苏州当代美术馆的庭院中、在移步换景的公共空间里，观众可将画面上的气韵与具体的空间感知结合起来，体验唯有此时此地方能生发的美学力量。

The two exhibitions mirror each other: Picasso not only disrupted but also reconstructed the conventions of European artistic traditions, while Chinese artists introduce a novel spatiotemporal perspective to the world through the lens of Eastern transcendence. Positioned within the courtyards of the Suzhou Contemporary Art Museum or navigating its immersive public spaces, audiences can harmonize the energy of the artworks with their immediate spatial awareness, thus experiencing an aesthetic power that is truly unique to this time and place.

“编码与天幕：超越算法时代的艺术”由德国卡尔斯鲁厄艺术与媒体中心（ZKM）馆长阿利斯泰尔·哈德森与深圳国际美术馆馆长、中央美术学院教授张子康联合策划，汇聚全球11个国家16组国际顶尖艺术家作品，覆盖人工智能艺术、生物艺术、虚拟艺术、太空艺术四大前沿话题。依托苏州工业园区雄厚的科技产业底蕴，前沿科技与当代艺术的跨界正形成持续的创作合力，为“苏州正当美”注入先锋创新的时代质感。

“CODES & CANOPIES - Art Beyond the Algorithmic Age” is co-curated by Alistair Hudson, Director of ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe, and Zhang Zikang, Director of Shenzhen International Art Museum and Professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts. This exhibition features works by 16 leading international artists from 11 different countries, addressing four cutting-edge topics: AI art, bio art, virtual art, and space art. Drawing on the rich technological foundation of Suzhou Industrial Park, this cross-disciplinary integration of advanced technology and contemporary art fosters ongoing creative synergy, infusing a pioneering spirit and innovative quality into the concept of “Suzhou in Beautiful MoCAment”.

“BIG：唯物主义”为常设展，由美术馆与建筑设计方BIG建筑事务所共同策划，以材料为线索，为观众了解美术馆建筑提供了独特视角。

“BIG: MATERIALISM” is a permanent exhibition co-curated by the museum and its architectural designer BIG. Taking materials as its thread, it provides audiences with a distinct perspective on the architectural development of the museum.

新展接力：12月高潮迭起 

New Exhibitions in Relay: A Climax in December

开馆艺术季采用“首批大展＋新展接力”的方式，让“苏州正当美”的艺术热度贯穿全程。12月初，毕加索主题展新展接续、意大利未来主义主题展、全球科技艺术先驱Jeffrey Shaw（邵志飞）、中国艺术家个案研究展等将次第开放。接连不断的艺术内容让美术馆始终保持鲜活的流动态势，艺术的热潮将在金鸡湖右岸持续涌动、生生不息。

The inaugural art season follows a “First Batch + Relay” model, ensuring that the artistic fervor of “Suzhou in Beautiful MoCAment” permeates the entire event. In early December, we will see the continuation of the Picasso-themed exhibition, an exhibition dedicated to Italian Futurism, a showcase of global tech-art pioneer Jeffrey Shaw, as well as solo exhibitions featuring Chinese artists—all opening in succession. This unwavering stream of artistic offerings keeps the museum in a dynamic state of flux, as the tide of art continuously flows along the right bank of Jinji Lake.

百场公教活动解锁全城艺术联动

100+ Public Programs & City-Wide Artistic Engagement

开馆艺术季期间，美术馆将依托“右岸讲堂”“右岸美育”“MoCA kids”等公共教育品牌，推出近百场配套活动，涵盖学术讲座、跨界对谈、艺术工作坊、百人共创、艺术展演等多元形式，同步配套100余场志愿者公益导览，为观众提供常态化公益观展服务，让艺术之美抵达更广泛的公众。

During the inaugural art season, the museum will host nearly 100 supporting events under its public education brands—“Right Bank Academy”, “Right Bank Aesthetic Education”, and “MoCA Kids”—covering academic lectures, cross-disciplinary dialogues, art workshops, hundred-person co-creation projects, and art performances. In addition, over 100 volunteer-guided tours will be offered to provide regular free services, ensuring that the beauty of art reaches a broader audience.

与此同时，美术馆将走出场馆、融入城市：毕加索主题艺术巴士穿梭于城市街头，苏州之眼“艺术家之眼”主题舱打造云端打卡地标，“微缩MoCA”沉浸式毕加索快闪落地苏州中心与诚品书店，“苏州正当美”全城互动打卡活动同步上线，让城市的每一处转角，都成为触手可及的艺术现场。

Meanwhile, the museum will extend its reach beyond its walls and into the city. A Picasso-themed art bus will shuttle through urban streets; the “Artist’s Eye” themed cabin on the Suzhou’s Eye Ferris Wheel will serve as a sky-high landmark for photos; a “Mini MoCA” immersive Picasso pop-up will take place at Suzhou Center and Eslite Bookstore; and the “Suzhou in Beautiful MoCAment” citywide interactive check-in campaign will go live simultaneously. Each corner of the city will transform into a vibrant art scene.

Starting at 10:00 AM on August 21, tickets to Suzhou MoCA will officially go on sale, coinciding with the launch of its membership system. The museum adopts a “one-ticket-for-all” policy, allowing entry to all four major exhibitions with a ticket priced from RMB 80 for the inaugural season.
