光，不止于亮。

它颤动、停留、柔化，也不断增强。它使边缘变得清晰，也令其彻底消融。它承载着温度、密度与情绪。光始终处于流动之中，不仅塑造我们所见之物，也塑造我们在空间中的感受方式。

《光的情绪》汇聚了一系列将光视为情感力量的作品。光穿行于材质与氛围之间，捕捉感知中细微的变化。在绘画、物件与装置等多种形式中，光成为一种媒介，使亲密、张力、静止与悄然发生的转变逐渐展开。

在这里，光不再仅仅作为照明而存在，而是一种承载情感共鸣的力量。它渗透于颜料之中，在反射性的平面之间折射流转。阴影逐渐凝聚出重量；半透明的层次使色彩悬置于一种未定的状态之中。那些看似稳定的存在，最终显露出其短暂性 —— 它们依赖于观看的角度、时间的流逝以及人与之相遇的距离而不断变化。

这些作品并非描绘光，而是在创造与光相遇的经验。材料吸收并释放光线，表面仿佛在呼吸，边界不断模糊又重新显现。每一种创作行为，都回应着光作为一种被经历、被感知的存在，微妙，却持续。

由 THE SHOPHOUSE 与 Pillars Gallery 共同策划，本展于皮勒画廊沿苏州河而建的历史仓库空间中展开。空间由结构性的柱体与开放式工业尺度构成，建筑本身形成一种有序的节奏，使光得以在其中流动。它穿越柱列，停驻于混凝土表面，并向垂直高度延展，放大那些静谧而强烈的瞬间。

随着一天中自然光与人工光的变化，空间氛围不断调整，作品的色调与存在感也随之变化，变得明亮、暗淡，或保持凝滞。展览拒绝一种固定不变的观看方式，而是在时间的展开与观者的移动中逐渐生成。

《光的情绪》邀请观众放慢步伐，体察氛围如何聚集，感知如何被光线明暗与阴影变化中的细微波动所塑造。

Light is never neutral.

It trembles, lingers, softens, and intensifies. It sharpens an edge or dissolves it entirely. It carries temperature, density, and mood. Always in motion, light shapes not only what we see, but how we feel within space.

Emotions of Light brings together works that approach light as an affective force — one that moves through material and atmosphere, registering subtle shifts in perception and sensation. Across painting,objects, and installation, light becomes a medium through which intimacy, tension, stillness, and quiet transformation unfold.

Here, light is not treated as illumination alone, but as a carrier of emotional resonance. It settles into surfaces, diffuses through pigment, fractures across reflective planes. Shadows gather weight; translucent layers suspend colour in states of suspension. What appears stable reveals itself as fleeting — contingent on angle, duration, and proximity.

Rather than depicting light, the works in this exhibition stage encounters with it. Materials absorb and release. Surfaces breathe. Edges blur and reassert themselves. Each gesture responds to light as something lived and experienced — subtle yet persistent.

Co‑curated by THE SHOPHOUSE and Pillars Gallery, the exhibition unfolds within Pillars Gallery’s historic warehouse space along Suzhou Creek. Defined by its structural columns and open industrial volume, the architecture creates a measured rhythm through which light moves. It stretches between pillars, settles onto concrete, and expands into vertical height, amplifying moments of quiet intensity and pause.

Throughout the day, natural and artificial light recalibrate the atmosphere of the space. Works shift in tone and presence — brightening, dimming, holding still. The exhibition resists fixity; it unfolds durationally, shaped by time and the viewer’s movement within it.

Emotions of Light invites viewers to slow their pace. To notice how atmosphere gathers. To recognise how perception is shaped by subtle fluctuations of luminosity and shadow.

叶夫根尼娅·潘克拉托娃  Evgeniya Pankratova

叶夫根尼娅·潘克拉托娃，1997年生于俄罗斯莫斯科，毕业于莫斯科国立学术艺术学院（MAXY）、佛罗伦萨美术学院及明尼阿波利斯艺术与设计学院。现居并工作于意大利圣多纳迪皮亚韦（San Donà di Piave），其艺术实践以绘画为基础，探索象征性意象、戏剧化空间与日常物件之间的交汇关系。

Evgeniya Pankratova (b. 1997, Moscow, Russia) graduated from The Moscow State Academic Art College (MAXY), Florence Academy of Fine Arts, and Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Based in San Donà di Piave, Italy, her practice is rooted in painting, exploring the intersection of symbolic imagery, theatrical space, and everyday objects.

李创李  Li Chuangli

李创李，1991年生于武汉，现工作生活于武汉。2014年毕业于湖北师范大学美术学院。李创李近期的创作表现出对现代主义相关议题的广泛兴趣，并在波普艺术的路径中展开绘画工作。这些作品是对当代社会生活中与大众文化、商业产品以及社交媒体相关图像的拼贴和挪用，并使用广告画的技术方法进行创作。

Li Chuangli (b. 1991, Wuhan, China) works and lives in Wuhan, graduated from the Oil Painting Department of Hubei Normal University in 2014. Li Chuangli's recent works show a broad interest in modernist-related issues and he has developed paintings in the path of pop art. These works are collages and appropriations of images related to mass culture, commercial products and social media in contemporary social life, and are created using the technical methods of advertising posters.

路易斯·阿普尔比  Louis Appleby

路易斯·阿普尔比，1991年生于兰开斯特，现生活和工作于英格兰北部兰开斯特。2014年毕业于温布尔登艺术学院（Wimbledon College of Art）绘画专业，获学士学位；2019年毕业于皇家艺术学院（Royal College of Art）绘画专业，获硕士学位。他的创作通过后数字时代人类（post-digital humans）的视角，探讨反乌托邦、地球生态破坏以及未来学等议题。其绘画在视觉语言上受到计算机图形、卡通、电子游戏及科幻电影的影响。艺术实践建立在静物画传统之上，并以近乎卡通化的超写实方式进行精细描绘，在现实与虚拟、日常与未来之间构建出独特的图像空间。

Louis Appleby (b. 1991, Lancaster, UK) lives and works in Lancaster, North England. He completed his BA in Painting at Wimbledon College of Art in 2014 and his MA in Painting at Royal College of Art in 2019. His work explores themes such as dystopia, destruction of the planet, and futurology all viewed through the lens of post digital humans. The paintings are aesthetically influenced by computer graphics, cartoons, video games and sci-fi films. His practice as an artist builds on the traditions of still-life painting and are highly rendered in a cartoon-like hyper realistic way.

罗布·莫托尔，1959年出生于英国韦林花园城。

史蒂夫·哈里森  Steve Harrison

史蒂夫·哈里森，1967年出生于英国纽卡斯尔，现生活和工作于伦敦，同时在威尔士波伊斯（Powys）的工作室进行盐釉烧制创作。他于1991年获得伦敦米德尔塞克斯理工学院（Middlesex Polytechnic, London）艺术学士学位，并于1993年获得英国皇家艺术学院（Royal College of Art, London）艺术硕士学位。1994年至2014年间，哈里森曾任教于多所艺术院校，包括坎伯韦尔艺术学院（Camberwell College of Arts）及曼彻斯特大学（The University of Manchester）的陶瓷专业。

Steve Harrison (b.1967, Newcastle, UK) lives and works in London, conducting salt glaze firings from a studio in Powys, Wales. He received his BA from Middlesex Polytechnic, London (1991) and completed his MA at the Royal College of Art, London (1993). Between 1994–2014 Harrison was a lecturer in ceramics at institutions including Camberwell College of Arts and The University of Manchester.

王一  Wang Yi

王一，1991年生于上海，2016年硕士毕业于中国美术学院油画系新具象工作室。王一的艺术实践从绘画出发，以象征性的图形、颜色和材料作为载体，拓展到雕塑、装置、文本、拼贴等多种媒介，丰富抽象艺术在风格研究之外的可能性。王一认为抽象艺术的使命在于承载观念，而过去、现在及未来的一切人类社会现象都可以通过基本的图形和独逸的格套显现，他把这种工作理念称为“大几何（Grand Geometry）”。作为中国新生代抽象艺术家的成员，王一将基于现实脉络的回应隐藏在抽象化的外壳下，使之与中国的特有语境对话并生长出新的含义。

Wang Yi (b. in 1991, Shanghai, China) graduated from oil painting at the second studio of Oil Painting Department of China Academy of Art in 2016. Wang Yi’s artistic practice originates from painting and expands through a variety of media— including sculpture, installation, text, and collage—using symbolic forms, colors, and materials as carriers to explore the broader potential of abstraction beyond questions of style. The artist believes that all social phenomena—past, present, and future—can be expressed through elementary geometric forms, and summarizes his creative philosophy as “Grand Geometry”. As a member of China’s new generation of abstract artists, Wang Yi regards abstraction as a vessel for ideas: phenomena and thought ultimately manifest in distinct forms that respond to issues of nature and the city, historical culture, and social structure. He conceals his responses to reality within abstract surfaces, allowing them to converse with China’s unique cultural context and to generate new layers of meaning through that encounter.

About Pillars Gallery:

Pillars  Gallery,  founded  in  2025,  is  located  along  Suzhou  Creek  within  the  historic Guang’er Warehouse in Shanghai. Named after “Pillar”, the gallery not only extends the cultural  symbolism  of  Dongliang  but  also  resonates  with  the   column-filled   interior, invoking ideas of foundation, support, connection, and extension.

This former storage site now reawakens, unfolding a measured narrative of culture and beauty. Here, each work emerges from the artist’s attentive engagement with materials and a sustained observation of daily experience, taking form through craft and time as a presence imbued with lived warmth.

Pillars Gallery aspires to serve as a pillar connecting history and the future, and art with the public, cultivating a space for reflection and engagement through dialogues between tradition and the contemporary.

About THE SHOPHOUSE

Built with the combined function for commerce and residence, a #SHOPHOUSE, or more referred to as "tong lau" in Hong Kong as well as in Southern China and Southeast Asia, is a type of tenement building prevalent in the late 19th century to the 1960s.

Housed in a 1930s Grade III heritage building, THE SHOPHOUSE explores boundaries between art, design, and everyday living.

Attuned to the social and cultural milieu of contemporary life, THE SHOPHOUSE is a culmination of artistic expressions by cross-field artists, makers and creative insiders. Inspiring new conversations and narratives in dialogue with its ever-evolving space, THE SHOPHOUSE revitalises its heritage through its stimulating programmes, and weaves together different forms of artistic expressions into everyday life.
