创作自述——焦兴涛

  传统雕塑的整体感与完整感,就如同生活的恒定性与稳定性一样,让我无所适从,而历史与现时生活的破碎感,片段感,却日益请晰地成为我创作的主题。

  传统文化符号的支言片语中折射出的历史意识和文化记忆让我痴迷,而以怎样的形式与可能与当代文化对接,则使我兴趣盎然。我试图从个体经验的角度,去感受其中的冲突,联系和意义。

  烧焊的过程是让人兴奋的,烧灼、切割、熔化、滴淌、叠加、扭曲,让人体会到一种从未有过的惬意。或许,戏曲中的人物是一些关闭在历史中的公共形象,当他们以某种方式释放出来,对我而言往往产生一种不可抑制的荒诞感。

  很多人都有这样的经验,当你盯着书中的某个汉字,并长时间地观察它的间架结构,你会发现感觉中熟悉的某个字,突然间变得非常陌生。传统的艺术样式,在当代文化的审视下,已经成为一种文化符号,其中所折射出来的历史意识和文化记忆,就如同汉字一样,既令人熟悉又让人体验到一种全新的陌生。

  或许,破碎的钢或者铜拼凑、焊接而成的造型具有的破碎感和随意性,正契合了我们对传统文化象征符号的零散记忆,以及那些随着岁月不断变化、调整、添加的历史的、文化的、庸常的因素。

  每个人的姿态是有意义的,因为是自我有意无意选择的结果。当我们每个人在被要求拍摄时,总会摆出“自己”的姿态——可能是对自己的某个角度比较自信,抑或者是模仿某个明星的扮相,或做英雄状,或做可爱状,或做潇洒状、或做性感状,就如同戏曲中的“亮相”——每一个个体的姿态都折射出群体的想象和集体的欲望。

  戏曲中璀璨的华服和“行头”,总是让我想到躲在它后面的表演者:他和他扮演的角色有着怎样的一种联系?尤其是男扮女或者女扮男的时候。其实,性别的倒错与疑惑,社会角色的扮演与压力,现代人有着同样的困境与焦虑。

  电脑游戏中有一类叫做“RPG”游戏,又叫做“角色扮演”游戏,它让玩家以第一人称的方式去经历一个“大侠”或者一个探险者的人生,在充满刺激与冒险的旅程中,让玩家获得极大的心理满足。我想,对于那些叫做“票友”的人来说,戏剧就是他们的“RPG”游戏。

  中国文化象征体系中的那些道德的、伦理的、人格的形象或个案曾经都是我们过去生活的日课,这些形象曾经长时间的活跃在我们的记忆中,如果不是互联网的到来,或许我们还将代代相传。

  The entire sense of traditional sculpture, like real life, makes me at a loss. However the fragments of both history and real life are gradually becoming the themes of my creation.

  I am so fascinated in history and cultural memory, which refracted from the information of traditional culture symbols, I am also interested in communicating them with the contemporary culture. So I try to express the conflict, relation and significance from my individual experience.

  Burning, cutting, melting, dripping, flowing, overlapping and twisting, the process of welding brings great satisfaction and delight to me. One of my themes in welding is opera figure. Perhaps the characters of operas are abstract figures in history, but they look so amazing when they become tangible,

  Many people have this experience, when you stare at a Chinese character for a long time to observe it's structure, you'll find the character which you are familiar with becomes suddenly strange. From the contemporary culture's point of view, the traditional art forms have been cultural symbols, but much like Chinese characters. It's history and cultural memory takes on both aspects of familiarity and unfamiliarity.

  Perhaps the broken figures of steel and bronze welded and scraped up correspond to our fragmentary memory about traditional cultural symbols and the constant change, adjustment and additional factors of history and culture that come with the passing of time.

  Everyone's poses are significant, which are the chosen results by themselves consciously and unconsciously. When photos are taken of us, we always pose in some way, whether it be heroic, cute, stylish or sexy. And if confident, we allow profiles to be taken or become an imitation of a person we admire. Every individual's pose reflects imagination and desire of groups.

  The splendid costumes always lead me to think of the actors behind them: what's the relationship between actors and their roles, especially when an actor plays female role or an actress plays a male role? In fact, modern people are always puzzled by the interchange of gender roles and the playing of public roles in society.

  One kind of a computer game is called RPG (Role Playing Game). In this game, players can experience the whole life of a great explorer in the first person. In this venturesome game, players get great satisfaction. For those called "opera fans", operas are their RPG.

  The figures about morality, ethics and personality, which were the necessary content in our daily life, have stayed within our memory for a long time. Without the coming of internet, maybe we would have inherited these morality, ethics and personality that these figures exemplified from one generation to another.
