1958 年出生于巴西圣保罗，现居住于德国。曾于南伊利诺伊大学和旧金山艺术学院学习哲学和美术，并曾任曼海姆自由艺术学院客席教授。

Cristina Barroso‘s paintings consist of several layers. The ground layer mostly comes from painted-over, collaged layers of newspaper, and photographs of cities, celestial charts and other collected images by the artist in order to create a world with new space and time. Barroso uses shellac, powdered asphalt and wax to create new topographies while using numbers, writing, images to create conceptual contexts.

Geography and astronomy has a special meaning in her works, where she creates a place often expanded into the universe. Elements like stars appear sparkling like pearls on a dark background. With this, Barroso refers to a theme she has been working on since the 1990s. In addition, she introduced signs and symbols used in astronomy, gives an additional meaning to her works. About positioning and location of human and herself, the idea runs through Cristina Barroso‘s works as if a continuous thread — referring to the earth, the universe, and space.

年轻时的Barroso在晚上躺在床上时，总觉得她比她的房子大，然后她缩小到一只蚂蚁的大小。她试图在她的作品中重现这种非常大和非常小的独特感觉。
As a young girl, Cristina often felt, as she lay in bed at night, that she was growing larger than her house but then shrinking to the size of an ant. This unique feeling of the very large and the very small is what she is trying to recreate in her work.
她的作品表达了来自微观和宏观宇宙对比视角的截然不同的观点。「如果我在天体地图旁边放一张街道地图，那么我就会意识到我们星球的尺寸。这让我感受更踏实，也让我以新的眼光看待我的生命跨度」她解释道。
The very different perspectives, which come from the contrasting view of the micro and macro cosmos, are expressed in her work. “If I put a street map next to a celestial map, then I become conscious of the dimensions of our planet. This grounds me and also allows me to see the span of my life in a new light,” she explains.
