展览取名《杂妍糅蚩》。妍蚩，妍是指姣妍美媚，蚩是指丑陋邪恶，宗宁的画面妍蚩交错。杂糅，是指宗宁的创作手法，杂古糅今，以中国上古传说、古典名著、民间传说中的人物和他臆想绘制的故事场景，讽喻当今的生存现实。

本次展出的宗宁作品多取材于《聊斋志异》、《西游记》、《楚辞》、《山海经》、《太平广记》等，他将其中感兴趣的情节或形象提炼出来，比如在画廊一楼现场创作的《连珠箭》，取自《二刻拍案惊奇》，讲述宋朝一位京师士人乘着酒兴跳墙误入奸臣察京太师宅院，被院中一群妖艳妇人灌酒恣淫，士人尽管年轻，能放得“连珠箭”，却无休无歇，完事以后肢体无力，最终被抬出扔到门外。

宗宁的现场创作，采用绘画与实物、装置相结合的手段，富有上古的神秘色彩，裸体模特的出现更是强化了古今杂糅的冲击力。展览同时陈列宗宁最近几年具有代表性和系统性的十余件摄影作品，展厅三楼还保留了宗宁创作一楼现场期间在画廊持续半个月的简朴生活痕迹。

The exhibition is named “Blended”, which implies the works blend beauty and ugliness, good and evil, the modern and the ancient. Blend is Zong Ning’s typical approach of artistic creation, by which he alludes to the living of modern people by the allegorical use of Chinese ancient myths, ancient classics, characters in folklores and the story scenes he painted according to his imagination.

The Zong Ning’s works presented in this exhibition are inspired by ancient Chinese classics such as "Strange Tales from a Lonely Studio", "Journey to the West", "The Songs of the South", "The Classic of Mountains and Seas", "Extensive records of the Taiping era", from which he extracts the plots and characters he interested in. For instance, the work “repeating crossbow” created on-site was inspired by a story from Amazing Tales- Second Series, a young scholar in the capital of Song Dynasty got drunk and jumped over the wall of a senior official’s yard accidentally. He was found and raped by a group of horny women. Despite the fact that he was so young and strong like a repeating crossbow, he finally exhausted himself and got thrown outside.

In his on-site creation, Zong Ning combines painting, object, and installation, with abundant mysterious colors that give a flavor of ancient times. The nude models showed up to strengthen the collision between the modern and the ancient. The exhibition also presents more than a dozen of Zong Ning’s most representative and systematic photography works. Third floor of the venue shows the well-kept traces of Zong Ning’s simple life during the half-month on-site creation.
