我们希望对珠三角这片鲜活而饱含矛盾性的土地上的艺术保持持续的观察。在展览机制上,以“珠三角艺术单位观察”的名义形成每三年一次的序列展;而观察的方式则是深入到其错综复杂的各种组织中去,如群落、小组、团体、机构等。在2016年的展览中,我们选取了9个根植于珠三角的各类团体式艺术组合,其观察的角度主要是从单位组织的结构以及与社会互动的方式来进行的,主题“场域的毛细管”指的是它们像毛细管一样在这个场域中发挥着意想不到的作用。
三年过去,第二届“珠三角艺术单位观察”展以“热烟流”为题集结起珠三角9个艺术家团体,试图从这个区域特殊的环境现象所引发的族群和行为方式思考及想象来切入。从被视作混合了湿热气候和瘟疫的烟瘴之地的“烟”,到虎门销烟中的所谓蛮烟的“烟”,再到当下复杂的社会和城乡景观之中的各种“烟”,诸种暧昧不清的“烟雾”与炎热气候、茂密植被等自然与非自然的形态,被裹挟进这个区域的现代性进程,演化出某种极具传染性的力量和特殊的地域属性。
“热烟流”既与这个区域的气候和地理表征有关,也隐喻全球与本土互动框架下社会、思想和文化等方面的流向。而所选择的团体或个体正是以自身的研究和创作实践介入到这种流向之中,并且通过坚守与自我反思的律动而保持着处于行进之中的流动。我们正是力求从地理、气候以及与之相关的人的行为方式与景观塑造的角度来寻找这个区域当下艺术行动的隐在线索。

It is our aim to examine the Pearl River Delta's meteoric progress of urbanization and its cultural phenomena developed in a considerable dualism. In this prospect, the occurring " Pearl River Delta Arts Retrospective" is introduced as a triennial to feature in-depth reviews of the region; by scrutinizing each organization working in this conurbation, in the varied forms of creative communities, collectives and institutions. With these concerning entities, in our previous collaborative projects, we have since established a strong connection in hope to stimulate the unorthodox ecology and practices in the arts. In 2016 we have presented 9 practitioner groups distinctive to the PRD, looking at how such formations have shaped the cultural landscape in the region and its relevance for today’s socio-political context. Therefore, in our last exhibition the core subject of “Capillaries of the Field” have resulted as an intricate network throughout the area, in the advocacy of a thriving creative industry.
Three years have passed, the second edition of the “PRD Arts Retrospective” has proposed ‘How Flows’ as a working title, and appointed 9 artist groups to exhibit their trajectory of integration as a community-oriented model in the Pearl River Delta. The concept draws on colonial preoccupations with the plume of ‘smoke’ as sources of likely contagion in the effect of temperature and moisture, the burning ‘smoke’ rising from opium destruction at Humen, and the noxious veil of ‘smog’ enveloping the complexity of our urban-rural divide; such environmental commonality functions as powerful means to communicate messages on localism as an urban phenomena.

1、冯火
“Fong Fo” is the name of a monthly magazine that was launched in March 2013. Fong Waiking is the editor-in-chief, Zhu Jianlin is the CEO, BUBU is the publisher, Ou Feihong is the manager of the advertising department, and Ce Zhenhao is the brand ambassador. Taking the form of a general audience reading material, the magazine seeks to collect and inspire artists’ creation.
Fong Fo Monthly is published on the 21st of each month. It costs one yuan per issue. There are three pages for advertisements each charges fifty yuan. The magazine is distributed in xx places in xx cities. Through almost six years of operation, we have posted more than two hundred ads on the magazine. We set up Fong Fo Forever Advertisement Department based on our advertisement business. We see it as an imagination and a metaphor of the future that it would never end. We are open to accept page reservation from different businesses in every corner of the world for future issues. This is a promise for the future, and an encouragement to each other. Fong Fo is known for/as: kickass, democratic, savvy, easy-going, free, fair-minded, sensible, well- behaved, earth-loving, hard-working, reliable, and decent.

Fong Fo: Extra was a project newly initiated in 2019, as a collaboration with CCS Bard on an exhibition called “Fong Fo: Extra”.
The special edition included a collective of video installation, a zine and the original painting used as print cover; the exhibition showcased publishing material of the past issues and the relevant productions. The acrylic painting on aluminum depicts of the number 49 residential home in Guangzhou. The house took a year to built, when the construction was completed in December of 2018, Fong Fo has arranged an open day/exhibition with the architect Yang Liu, where they have jointly held panel discussions on architecture/space. The script of the videos presumed the recording of such discussions; pondering on the subjects of history, identity and communities, those ideas in turn contributed to the content of “Fong Fo: Extra”. On the occasion of Fong Fo Monthly’s sixth anniversary, this project functions as a retrospective on Fong Fo's recent activities informed by its operation/involvement in publishing, as a way to reimagine the magazine as a platform for community building.
2、西三歌队
西三歌队,创立于2017年9月,由西三电影制片厂延伸而来,主唱吉他蔡所,鼓手刘浩。他们将麦克风递向当事人,连结相关事案的实践者,注重一种参与式的表达。这是一支为真实的声音助唱的歌队。
XI SAN Chorus
XI SAN Chorus was established on the September of 2017, as a side project of Xi San Film Studio, the band features of guitarist Cai Suo and drummer Liu Hao. By passing the microphone to the mass, and engaging with their audiences, their performance becomes a form of reclamation for the characters, as the artists empower by giving voice to their truth.
Cai Suo: Lead singer of XI SAN Chorus, born in 1979 in Yangjiang, graduated from The Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts with an oil painting major in 2004.
Liu Hao: Drummer of XI SAN Chorus, born in 1974 in Zhanjiang, graduated from The Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts with an oil painting major in 1998.
2019年三月下旬,西三村出租屋屋主和服装作坊共同收到了一封由广州市番禺区环保工作领导小组办公室印发的“公开信”,信中明确提出他们将联合国土规划、工商、税务、质监、消防等部门对辖区民宅从事生产加工的“散乱污”场所展开清理行动。我们于今年一月份正式启动的《缝纫——西三村制衣作坊调查实践项目》,也不得不面对这一临时状况而调整实践方向而写的一首歌。
Music Video Description:
Landlords of rental housing in Xisancun and the garment factory jointly received an “open letter” issued by the Office of Environmental Protection Works Leadership Group of Panyu District, Guangzhou in the end of March 2019. In the letter, it clearly stated that the Office will join forces with numerous state departments such as Ministry of Land and Resources, State Administration for Industry and Commerce, State Taxation Administration, General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine and Ministry of Emergency Management to clean up and regulate polluting premises within the administrative region such as those residential houses engaged with production and processing works. Whatever needs to happen will happen, however, to the villagers of Xisancun and the garment factory that consisted predominantly of people from Tianmen, Hubei which underwent a “clean up action” in the Baiyun District a year ago, this day still came as a surprise. Similarly, an operation named Sewing - Xisancun Garment Factory Investigation Operation that we officially launched in January this year also needed to face with a song written on this temporary condition that adjusted the practice direction.
3、卤味高清频道
卤味高清频道始于2016年8月,是彭文彪(1987)、陈嘉莹(1991)、李冠廷(1993)、陈诗颖(1991)、陈恒春(1991)、冯毅智(1988)六人组成的艺术创作小组。成员均来自广东,受粤语和珠三角流行文化影响,相信社会现象和个体经验中蕴藏着时代特定的基因信息。艺术家糅杂了这样一些信息,将之重构出不同的叙事,通过录像、插画、文本等形式,让这些信息重新回到观众的视觉经验里。代表作品有《情感追击》系列、《都市情缘》系列、《南头城市花园》《监控风云》等。
Luwei HD
Luwei HD is an art group founded by Peng Wenbiao (1987), Chen Jiaying (1991), Li Guanting (1993), Chen Shiying (1991), Chen Hengchun (1991) and Feng Yizhi (1987) in August, 2016. They were all born in Guangzhou, influenced by Cantonese culture, they believe that social phenomenon as well as personal experience both contains genetic information of their era. The artists mixed these information and re-construct them into different narrations, using videos, illustrations, etc, so the information is brought back to the audience's visual experience.Representative works: Feeling Attack series, Urban Love series, Nantou City Garden, Monitor Matters
Monitor Matters
Created with actual surveillance footages, a distinctive narrative developed from fragments, as the original story extends from the occurring to unseen emotions, in arresting and compelling characters. Our perception of the world and ourselves has changed, through the many eyes of surveillance cameras. The work is composed of “ATM”, “Driving Record”, “Toll Station”, “Elevator”, “The Game Event” and “The Pretender”, commissioned by the Art Forum and the Shanghai Biennale.

Jiu Society
Chinese name: Jiu
Pinyin: jiū
Definition: describes sound, including light sounds of animals, also could describe sounds of insects and birds.
Refer to: kiss. The word “ちゅう” means the sound when kissing in Japanese. So “jiu” also means kissing.
Jiu is not close with Li Lei and Han Meimei, but is good friends with Peter, Ann, Sue and Ken. They are the experimental products of Reform and Opening, and also sons of dispersed culture. In name of nonsensical hedonism, despite of occasional anxious and suspect, Jiu feels very good. So they tried to make themselves heard, by making uncertain and small sound, Jiu.
The group consists of three members, Fang Di, Ji Hao and Jin Haofan. The three young artists are all born and raised as a new generation of Shenzhen citizens in this immigrant city. Shenzhen to them, is not anymore what to their parents - a place to make money. They gather around Shenzhen, their own city, and by using their young perspective to reconsider and make themselves heard.
A group of youths living in the urban concrete jungle, full of neon lights, decadence and bubbling desires look for a catalyst to relieve boredom, trying to find some quick gratification. But unfortunately, there is a preset alarm clock to remind them how lonesome they are. After dawn, in this strange city away from their hometown, life seems colorful, they interact in good companionship and gradually become lost.

The body is inevitably ageing and weakening, eroding youthfulness at every moment, but the spirit still hopes to follow in the footsteps of the times, just as if we knew where the future would show up. Our path is clear. We can't question the ending of our fantasy because we all believe there is a future ahead. We simply don't want to die yesterday.

COME INSIDE is a Hong Kong based art collective formed by Mak Ying-tung and Wong Ka-ying. Since Mak graduated from the School of Creative Media - City University of Hong Kong and Wong graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, they both are striving to be artists in the past three years.
In 2016, their art journey has come to a new page as they are fed up with the formalized system and depressed atmosphere of their society (Hong Kong). They have decided to attack the world with COME INSIDE.
COME INSIDE welcomes everyone to join their new created, fancy and funny world, and wish everyone can experience the ART ORGASM from the bottom of their inner-self.
The energetic members want to surprise people, bring the BOOM refreshing feelings to the public, test the limits of creativity and break the rules, creating guerilla art in diverse spaces and occasions, from communities to institutions, from street to white cubes.
Their first attempt is doing all kinds of part-time jobs in Hong Kong, to support the low-income life of being artists in this city. We have worked as hawkers, waitresses, tutors, sales, actresses, cleaning ladies, and more to come!

3、潘律+王博 Pan Lu & Bo Wang
Pan Lu is Assistant Professor at Department of Chinese Culture, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She was visiting scholar and visiting fellow at the Technical University of Berlin (2008 and 2009), the Harvard-Yenching Institute (2011-2012), researcher in residence at Fukuoka Asian Art Museum (2016) and visiting scholar at Taipei National University of the Arts (2018). Pan is author of two monographs: In-Visible Palimpsest: Memory, Space and Modernity in Berlin and Shanghai (Bern: Peter Lang, 2016) and Aestheticizing Public Space: Street Visual Politics in East Asian Cities (Bristol: Intellect, 2015). She translated Über das Neue by Boris Groys into Chinese (2018, Chongqing University Press). Her film Miasma, Plants and Export Paintings (co-directed with Bo Wang) received Award for Excellence, 32nd Image Forum Festival, Tokyo, Japan.
王博(b. 1982)艺术家、导演,工作生活在纽约布鲁克林。他大学期间就读于清华大学物理系,获物理数学学士、宇宙学硕士。后就读于纽约视觉艺术学院摄影、录像及相关媒体专业,获纯艺术硕士学位。作为艺术家,他的作品在包括古根海姆美术馆、纽约现代艺术博物馆、莫斯科车库当代艺术博物馆、瑞士真实影展、东京影像论坛电影节、伦敦当代艺术中心论文电影节、韩国非军事区纪录片电影节、哥本哈根国际纪录片电影节、广州时代美术馆、布鲁塞尔BOZAR当代艺术中心等一系列机构展映。他是罗伯特弗拉哈迪研讨会2013年Fellow,同时是2017 - 2018年光州亚洲艺术中心——荷兰皇家艺术学院联合驻留艺术家,2016年新加坡南洋理工当代艺术中心驻留艺术家。他目前任教于纽约视觉艺术学院视觉与批判研究系和艺术史系。
Bo Wang (b. 1982) is an artist and filmmaker based in Brooklyn, New York. At his undergraduate, he studied physics and mathematics at Tsinghua University, Beijing, where he also got his Master's in cosmology. He later studied at School of Visual Arts in New York and received his MFA in photography, video and related media. As an artist, his works have been exhibited internationally, including venues like Guggenheim Museum and Museum of Modern Art in New York, Garage Museum in Moscow, Visions du Réel in Switzerland, Image Forum Festival in Tokyo, Essay Film Festival at ICA in London, DMZ Docs in South Korea, CPH:DOX in Copenhagen, Times Museum in Guangzhou, BOZAR in Brussels, among many others. He received a fellowship from the Robert Flaherty Film Seminar in 2013, and was an artist-in-residency at ACC-Rijksakademie 2017-2018 as well as NTU CCA in 2016. He teaches in Visual and Critical Studies and Art History Department, School of Visual Arts, New York.

鸦片战争后,驻扎香港的英军中弥漫着对于南中国地区热带湿热气候的焦虑与恐惧。19世纪流行的瘴气理论将瘟疫和空气、环境与种族联系起来,而这些焦虑间接地决定了香港直到今日的阶级分化和空间形态。这一时期港英政府开始着力于港岛的绿化,香港植物园的建立同时又肩负着为大英帝国博物学科收集整理殖民地植物和自然知识的任务。英国博物学家对于植物的档案需求促进了外销画在欧洲的流行。本作品着眼于梳理殖民地早期殖民主义和帝国扩张对于粤港空间与自然形态的影响,也试图探讨在这一框架下东西方文化抑或商贸交流的模式与今日的异同。
The devastating tropical climate created strong fear and anxiety in the British troops who stationed at Hong Kong after the opium wars. The 19th Century myth of Miasma, the bad air, related epidemic diseases with air, environment and race, which later helped to consolidate the vertical segregation on Hong Kong island. Acclimatization efforts were made in pace with expansion of the British Botanic Empire, a global network of scientific researches of plants, which circulated not only botanic specimens but also images created for the purpose of study. In the particular case of Canton in South China, local commercial artists were commissioned to make plant paintings. This work examines the peculiar dynamics between imperialism, scientific research, race and the right to look in 19th Century Canton.

A Beautiful Day is about a journey of a different reality. Each day is consisted of several journeys and what we chose to experience forms our reality. However, there is also another reality that exist within the conflict between body and mind…
It was said, “Snakes can only see moving things, while the world of days is black and white. Dragon-flies can see a thousand suns. Some fishes live in the deep blue sea have eyes that turned into two white spots. It is our destiny that decides what we can and what we do not.” Our fate opens an unique door for each individual.
有人说过:“蛇只能看见运动着的东西,狗的世界是黑白的,蜻蜓的眼睛裡有一千个太阳,很多深海的鱼,眼睛退化成了两个白点。能看见什么,不能看见什么,那是我们的宿命。”我们每个人的命运,都是专为我们每一个独立的个体而开的,独一无二的门。
《完美的一天》以同名形体剧场作品命名,是对照莫倩婷取材自自闭症创作的“思觉系列”三部曲,所延伸的二度创作,联合录像导演欧阳永锋,以影像探索“真”与“幻”。
