《洪武通宝牧童骑牛》明代初期，明太祖朱元璋于洪武元年（公元1368年），命京城（南京）工部宝源局及各省宝泉局铸行“洪武通宝”，由工部主管铸钱，下设宝源局。朱元璋为避讳元朝的元字，把所铸之钱钱文一律叫通宝而不叫元宝，而不只是为避讳他自己的名字，以后所铸之钱也都没有元宝钱文。洪武通宝作为明朝的通用货币，截止到现在已经过了很多朝代，其存在的数量也越来越少。洪武通宝是一个历史的载体，记载的是明朝当时的经济发展水平，讲述的是明朝的铸造水平，阐述的是明朝的政治水平。其历史越加悠久，其收藏价值越加高。
根据历史研究发现，洪武通宝一共可以分为四种类型，六十一种款式。截至到目前，一共有五十八种款式被发现。其中最为出名的当属洪武通宝牧牛钱。“洪武通宝”背牧童骑牛图钱币，俗称“放牛洪武”，有大有小，有青铜、黄铜、淡红铜，牛有拖尾、摇尾，牧童有戴斗笠、有光头，它既是生肖钱，又是吉祥钱。

According to historical research, Hongwu Tongbao can be divided into four types and 61 styles. So far, a total of 58 styles have been found. One of the most famous is Hongwu Tongbao cow money“ "Hongwu Tongbao" is a coin with a picture of herding boy riding an ox on his back, commonly known as "herding cow Hongwu". There are big and small coins, including bronze, brass and light red copper. The ox has tail dragging and tail shaking. The herding boy has hat wearing and bald head. It is not only the money of Chinese zodiac, but also the lucky money.
