进入21世纪之后的十几年中，中国新一代艺术家越来越表现出与其前辈不同的人文倾向。他们以青年人特有的真挚，既不夸张也不遮掩地表现他们心灵世界。在他们的作品里可能感受到神秘或者热情，冷漠或者绝望……但总是充满自信地向前走。

　　按中国人的习惯，白蒂算是一个青年艺术家。但她对生活世界和艺术世界的观察了解，显然超越了她自身的经历，广阔和深入，这使她的绘画作品显得深沉且具精神力度。在她的作品里，看不到曾经流行于青年画家中间的玩世不恭、“艳俗”、反讽和调侃。可以感受到的是画家对那些被主流社会忘却或者丢弃的人和他们生活角落的注视，往往是带有悲悯深情的一瞥，残损的物象在暗夜里浮动，惶惑的人物守望着流逝的光明。我猜不透画中人的心意，因为画家精心建构了他们的茫然。

　　白蒂曾说她想要表达的是“现当代社会人的心理处境表现出的孤独，盲从和无可奈何”，而达到这种情境的手段是从绘画性出发，“运用具象表现的手法来搭建我心中的‘情景剧场’”。她习惯以果断而流动的笔触，强烈而沉稳的色彩，给微茫惨淡的世界以结构性的支撑，这使白蒂的绘画形式坚实，内涵有力。

Shui Tianzhong

　　In the decade entering the 21st century, China's new generation of artists has diverged more and more from their predecessors with respect to humanistic tendencies. As young people, they embody a unique sincerity, neither exaggerating nor concealing their spiritual world. In their artwork, one might experience mystery or warmth, cold or despair...but one will always be filled with the confidence to move forward.

　　According to Chinese standards, Bai Di is a young artist. However, her observation and understanding of life and art is broad and deep, going far beyond her personal experiences, thus making her paintings deep and full of spiritual strength. In her artwork, one does not see the cynicism, vulgarity, irony, and ridicule that were once popular among young artists. What is conveyed in her artwork is her feelings towards the forgotten and discarded people by the mainstream, the focus of these people in their life, with a touch of pity from the artist. They are damaged images moving through the darkness of night, confused characters observing the passage of light. I cannot guess at the feelings of the people in the paintings, because the artist has constructed their confusion in a meticulous way.

　　Bai Di once said that she wished to express "the psychological state of loneliness in contemporary society, conforming and helpless," and to achieve this expression through the means of painting by "using figurative techniques to illustrate the 'theatre set' in my heart." Her bold and flowing strokes, coupled with strong and steady colors provide the hazy and gloomy world with structural support. These distinguishing features make Bai Di's paintings strong in structure and powerful in connotation.
