▲ David Hockney
The British artist David Hockney has often said that he lives in the present: “It’s always just what I’m doing now. I don’t reflect too much. I live now. It’s always now.”

Any human activity may require a sense of play. Some people commented on my works and said they were too game oriented. I said, this is not criticism at all, this is praise. I do regard it as praise, because I believe that without a sense of play, there can be no novelty, even if scientists have a sense of play. The sense of play produces surprise, surprise and discovery, and anyone with a sense of play knows this.

The sense of game is available, so I use it to create. People often forget that games are serious, but I know they are. Some people hold the view that only boring is art, otherwise boring is not art. Damn it! I have always thought that the opposite is true. Most boring things are not art, but exciting and exciting things are mostly art. I don't know what good art is boring, whether it's music, poetry or painting. Isn't Shakespeare exciting because he's not boring?

I work most of the time, because work makes me excited and brings me great happiness. I work because I don't know what else to do besides work. I think if I don't work, I will go crazy. Maybe I won't like the world. Maybe I'm destined to work. Sometimes I think it's better to sit in a daze, but I can't, I hope I can. I have the ability to enjoy it, but unfortunately I have the urge to share my feelings. What artists usually do is share my feelings.IGGER TREES NEARER WATER, WINTER 2008, A YORKSHIRE LANDSCAPE. © DAVID HOCKNEY. PHOTOGRAPH BY RICHARD SCHMIDT.
All of us can understand tragedy to some extent and feel it in our lives - losing what we love, losing the people we love, but some of us can't see the comedy side of life, which is the biggest sorrow to me.
