20世纪现代艺术的开始，是艺术家们打破了传统，想随心所欲的创作。不再围绕着宗教神话历史题材，不再只是创作别人想要的东西，这是一种全新的态度，艺术家选择一个题材，一个我们很容易辨认的物体，随心所欲地加以处置，创作出属于艺术家自己的，表现他们生活和经历的作品。当年戈雅夸张和强调事物某一方面创作作品；凡高既用人们预想中的色彩，又使用完全出人预料的颜色，成为他个人的风格；修拉则把色彩当做科学实验；塞尚用移动的目光在风景和静物中摄取某些部分，重新安排在一幅画中；立体主义画家们把物体分解，再用不同的方式拼凑在一起；表现主义虽然表现物体形象，但这个物象已被自己的感觉所歪曲；抽象主义把形体弄得几乎无法辨认，只在空间填满颜色和若有若无的东西，表现感情和感觉。

　　20世纪现代艺术对拉斯维加斯画派的形成和发展起到至关重要的作用，20世纪的艺术发展中产生了众多的流派和运动，都对程亚杰产生了影响，程亚杰创立的拉斯维加斯画派正是融合的基础上加以创新。拉斯维加斯画派作品也不止一个风格和形式，在以前的绘画中就可以发现相似的因素，程亚杰有意识的选择其中的某些因素加以发挥，成为某一种风格作品的主导原则。

　　如果说同为2015年创作的《萌动》是一幅拉斯维加斯画派的抽象印象主义和抒情抽象风格作品。那么这幅《昨天明天畅想曲》正是拉斯维加斯画派中的另一种风格，《大都市之范》《Las Vegas impression》等同属于这种风格，其一，这种风格作品程亚杰使用拼贴立体主义手法创作，但有其独特性，早在1991年创作的幻想写实风格作品《奥，1991》就已经使用立体主义手法和扑克牌因素，对比起来一脉相承又各有千秋风格迥异。《昨天明天畅想曲》已是抽象主义风格作品。其二这种风格作品第一层面都是速写，隐约可见，有人物，有屋舍，唤起人作为生活主体的思考。其三醒目的横竖的大的色块与柔美的泼彩碰撞融合，刚中带柔，柔中有刚。其四色彩的统一画面的唯美。《昨天明天畅想曲》是一幅理性抽象风格的作品。

An Appreciation of Cheng Yajie’s Oil Painting The Imagination of Yesterday and Tomorrow

　　The twentieth century marked the beginning of modern arts. It was an entirely new attitude for artists to break the bonds of tradition and follow their inclinations to compose rather than focus on the themes of religion, myth and history or just compose what others needed. They chose a theme or an easily identifiable object, then added their ideas and feelings, and finally created great works which belonged to themselves and displayed their lives and experience. In the past time, Goya, a famous Spanish romantic painter, exaggerated and emphasized only one aspect of an object. Seurat, a French post-impressionist painter, was noted for his innovative use of drawing media and for devising the painting techniques. Cézanne was a French artist and post-impressionist painter who used planes of color and small brushstrokes that built up to form complex fields. In Cubist art works, objects were analyzed, broken up and reassembled in an abstract way. Expressionists presented the world solely from a subjective perspective, distorting it radically for emotional effect in order to evoke moods or ideas. Abstract expressionists put emphasis on spontaneous, automatic, or subconscious creation.

　　In the twentieth century, modern arts played a crucial role in promoting the formation and development of the painting school of Las Vegas, and left great influence on Cheng Yajie. The painting school of Las Vegas set up by him was innovated on the base of the modern arts. There were far more than one kind of style or form for the painting school of Las Vegas, which could be found in his previous paintings. He consciously selected some aspects and developed them into a leading principle of works with a certain style.
