我的母亲是福建人,但一直生活在江南。1958年她去世的前夕曾告诉我,她梦见回到了福建…….晴朗的天,大海好蓝,鼓浪屿好美!此后,她再也没说半句话,眼睛看着我就闭上长眠了。2002年,我终于有机会到厦门,踏上鼓浪屿写生,亲身感受母亲思念的家乡,完成了她和我这59年来的心愿。
My mother lived most of her life in Jiangnan, but she was originally from Fujian. The afternoon before she passed away in 1958, she said to me that she had had a dream the day before about being back in Fujian, and that the weather was so nice on Gulangyu Island, where the sky was clear and the ocean was so blue. She said it was all so beautiful…. These were the last words my mother said to me, and then she closed her eyes forever. In 2002, I finally got the chance to set foot on Gulangyu Island in Xiamen, experiencing my mother’s hometown by sketching it. The wish was finally fulfilled after 59 years.

长时间大量的写生经验,累积了无数的画面和情感在记忆中。这张就是用回忆所创作出我心目中的甲天下。画面要传达的,有两个重要的层次:一是『灰色调』的抒情性,另一是通过画树枝,表达『线条』在画面中的重要性。我一直认为,只有中国人才能更好的理解线条和人之间的情感连结。自古以来,线条在国画中并不完全是造型和轮廓线,而是蕴含着一种所谓一波三折的气韵,是一种哲学性的绘画语言。
Having spent many hours sketching outdoors, I have stored up numerous images and emotions in my memory. This painting was based on my memory of the scenery I saw in Guilin. I wanted to prove two points in this painting: the lyrical effect of tones of grey, and the importance of linework highlighted through the depiction of branches. I’ve always recognized that Chinese painters have a profound understanding of how to express human emotions through lines. Lines in ancient Chinese ink wash paintings are not only used for compositions and silhouettes, but also contain a spirit of enduring the ups and downs of life. Linework is a philosophical visual language for Chinese painters.
白居易之足迹(苏州明月湾)

2013年在朋友的介绍下,到了苏州的明月湾。据说,这里遗留下的渡船头,曾是白居易常常往返的。看着老码头和两边的树木,非常诗意,如同进入到白居易的诗词中一般。
I visited Moon Bay in Suzhou in 2013. It is said that the wharf in this area is the one the poet Bai Juyi often passed by. When I looked at the wharf and woods alongside it, I felt like I was living in the poem Bai had written. It was very poetic.
周庄双桥

江南多桥是一特点,桥接着桥的画面很多,水道,小船负责运输,也负责日常生活的买卖。不过,要把双桥的角度入画也不是很容易,这张的构图恰是在东京一中餐厅的老摄影作品,再结合周庄的写生而成。
There are many bridges in Jiangnan where one bridge is often linked to another. People would use the boats on the canal for transportation or to do daily business. Yet it was not easy for me to depict the connection of the two bridges. I finished this composition by referencing an old photograph and by using my own sketches of the area.
