吴湖帆(1894年-1968年), 江苏苏州人,为清代著名书画家吴大澄嗣孙。初名翼燕,字遹骏,后更名万,字东庄,又名倩,别署丑簃,号倩庵,书画署名湖帆。近现代绘画大师,书画鉴定家。
吴湖帆早年与溥儒被称为“南吴北溥”,后与吴子深、吴待秋、冯超然、在画坛有“三吴一冯”之称。
作为鉴定家,他与收藏大家钱镜塘同称“鉴定双璧”。
作为一位集绘画、鉴赏、收藏于一身的显赫人物,他的成就是多方面的,可以说代表了中国绘画史上的一种现象。

这件作品画的是黑白双骏,丰腴圆润,四肢纤细,皆类唐人笔。画作中马蹄硕大,当是取法敦煌北魏壁画。此作正值画家复笔重彩风格逐渐成熟的时期,色彩妍丽高雅,黑马更是于结构关键处复笔添色,富贵堂皇。此幅既可见吴湖帆先生一路上溯血战古人,又可见笔其墨技巧至臻至精,极为珍罕。此画是吴湖帆先生为同年生属马的挚友临摹唐韩幹而作,畹华,就是梅兰芳先生。
