  1.艺术特征:一种勃发的生命状态,一种涌动的自然生机

  一曰拟古清课。此类作品,貌似古人,实则拟古而出古,以对话古人,求对话自然,更表现独特感悟。虽遍拟北苑、巨然、襄阳、大痴、云林、黄鹤、仲圭、瞿山、清湘、石溪、时敏各家,但师其意不泥其迹,丘壑依稀古人,意境注入感受,笔墨更以石溪为主融会各家,洗发灵苗,融铸个性,其苍浑深湛拙厚之趣,亦得以隐然欲出。

  二曰实景写生。此类作品,堪称古法写生,丘壑新奇,笔墨得当,全然摈弃西法,亦非仅钩轮廓,多取半边一角,时亦截取一段,取境精粹,突出特色。画法活用各家,或淡墨干皴,得渐江、程邃之苍雅,或中锋简笔得北苑、担当之浑厚,或泼墨淋漓,得梅清、石涛、髡残之灿烂。

  三曰江山心象。此类作品,或繁或简,亦疏亦密。简者一丘一壑,一开一合。繁者则一幅中荟萃长松茂林、流泉飞瀑、幽涧曲径、溪桥村舍、翠岚云烟。其置阵布势,或幽深繁密,而气机流动,或天朗气清,而山林苍茂。率皆不求一树一石之肖似,而致力于山川之浑厚,草木之华滋,与夫登山临水之感受也。

  Feature 1: Learn from the ancient artists. Bo Hong's works presented as if they were done in the same manners of the ancient Chinese Artist, but they in reality achieved a new height in some aspects. Mr. Hong brings the nature closer to the viewers, he always seeks direct dialogue with nature, and tries to transform his surroundings into imaginations. Although you can see influence of Bei Yuan, Ju Ran, Yang Yang, Da Cui, Yun Lin, Huang He, Chung Gui, Shan Qu, Qing Xiang and Shi Ming in Mr. Hong's works, the artist absorbs those masters' art sensation and bring out his own spirit into his works, his perceptive of nature is in a comparable level to all the artists mentioned above. Hong's art style presents his sophisticated personality and artistic techniques, which is exceptional among contemporary Chinese arties.

  Feature 2: Sketch in nature. Some of Hong's works is unique because he uses the ancient Chinese sketching technics, which is quite different from western one. When he sketches, he emphasizes certain parts of nature's profile, and wipes out some insignificant scenes, to bring out the essence of environment. He utilizes those ancient artists' core techniques in each of his painting. Mr. Hong shows us Chinese arts as concise as Bei Yuan, as elegant as Mei Qing, as refulgent as Shi Tao.

  Feature 3: Landscape in thou mind. Those works could be complicated or simple, close or sparse. A simple piece could be one small hill and a valley; a complicated one could be the combinations of forests, springs, valleys, villages and cloud. The artist does not attempt to show us how the rocks and stone look like in reality, but to fit each of them into a bigger picture with mountains and trees. It is the feelings hikers obtain when he or she walks in the forest and mountain.

  其画功力深厚,意境清新,或写实景而妙于剪裁,或画心象而神与物游。余惊其取法乎上,不染时趋,非学院派诸家门径,乃问诸渊源所自,始知彼俊才者,盖得益于院外别传也。

  洪波正在盛年,虽已成绩显然,有声海外,然借古开今,其路迢迢,其难度百倍于借洋创新者。必也继续苦其心智,劳其手眼,踏遍天下名山,掏尽古今经典,发扬其拟古清课与实境写生之精义,丰润其江山新象之精神体貌。倘于经营中加惨澹,放笔间增矝慎,不拘一法中求秩序,不求脱过早,其百尺竿头大进一步无疑也。老眼婆娑,吾将拭目以待焉。

  洪波是青年画家中的后起之秀,他具有深厚的传统中国画的基础,同时能够深入到生活和大自然中去,坚持到名山大川去写生,在继承传统绘画技法的基础上又有所发展和创新。

  洪波的作品不但有丰富的景物,还有充沛的情感和深厚的意蕴,具有自己独特的艺术风貌,而无时下画坛雷同的抄袭之风,具有较高的格调。这次的展出很有意义,希望他的艺术道路具有更加广阔的前途。

  李伟铭,著名美术评论家、中国美术家协会理论委员会委员

  援书入画,强调用笔线条的金石意味以及追求结构章法的茂密朴厚,这大概应该是黄宾虹高扬“道咸中兴”说以后流行的正统主义样式。洪波的努力,企图践履的也正是这种价值取向;他在书法中得到的磨炼,显然有助于这种价值的强调。

  众所周知,“明劝戒,着升沉”是汉唐绘画承担的道德教化义务,在现代实践中,这种古老的价值功能被转述为启发人民、教育人民的工具。显然,洪波无意承担这种重大责任,他所承接的无非是元明以来浸渐蔚为奇观的所谓为寄、为乐的文人画传统。换言之,绘画在洪波这里只是个体生存体验的一种方式。

  洪波坚持中国画的写意精神,讲究以书法为根底的笔墨原则,抒写现代人对自然对人生的感悟之情。多年苦练而来的书法性笔线,和传统阴阳开合的绘画程式,使得他的山水和花鸟古意盎然,而仅有古意还是不行的,是师迹还是师心,是拟古还是师古,是所有学习传统的人所面临的共同问题,李可染的“用最大功力打进去,用最大勇气打出来”就是非常聪明的做法。洪波是清醒的,他在学习传统的时候始终保持这份警惕,他借古人的笔墨,表达自家的情怀。

  近年来移居海外的他,更有了一个远距离考量传统的视角,相信这份“文化乡愁”会让他对传统艺术的依恋更为浓烈,同时,对其认识亦更为深刻。书画之于洪波,类似于宗教信仰,真正的艺术家和圣徒做他们所要做的事不是为了糊口,而是服从于某种神秘的需要。正是这种需要使得洪波孜孜以求,在书画中抒林泉之志,发高滔之思,参悟超越天人的妙道。

  Xue Yong Nian (Chinese art critic, member of the National Heritage Commission, scholar of the National Research Institute of Culture and History, Professor of Chinese National Academy of Fine Arts History, vice director of Chinese Artists Association):

  Mr. Hong not only shows his well-trained skills in his paintings, but also brings totally renewed feelings to Chinese painting fans. Some of his works reflect the real world and beautifully composed; others are views of nature through his artistic mind, transform to new images. He learned from the ancient masters while not limited to modern people's understanding of traditional art. He absorbs various schools essence while his art style stands out from many other Chinese artists. He is a new star who does not belong to any of the current Chinese art genre.

  Mr. Hong is in the prime age of his life. Although he has achieved many milestones, and has gained a good reputation in his homeland and overseas, his unique way of showing Chinese art with traditional techniques still has a long way to go. He must continue working hard, exploring more into the nature, he will bring his Neo-traditional art style into a new trend, or even into a new height. If Hong adds more passion into his work, uses brush more conservatively, follows but not be limited to the old maters' rules, he will make a significant step forward. I am looking forward to seeing his new achievement.

  Bo Hong is a rising star among young artists. He has a profound understanding of traditional Chinese art. His works combine real lives with nature, sketching famous mountains and rivers with succession of traditional painting techniques, yet adding his own creative view on art and nature.

  Bo Hong's work has a wealth of scenery, a deep love to nature, a special Neo-contemporary style. His works can be differentiated from a lot of other young artists who only try to be the same as some big artists. Hence he is in a higher starting point then those groups of artists. This tour is meaningful to his art life. I wish him a brighter future in his artist career.

  Li Wei Ming (Art Critic):

  Bo Hong's art emphasizes on mastering each stroke, fitting each features into a picture with enchanting rhythm. This is probably in succession of Neo-classical style, with Huang Bing Hong's popular fundamentalism theory of learning from ancient artist developed in Dao and Xian emperor's period in Qing dynasty. Bo Hong's is attempting to fulfillment these values. His constant practice of calligraphy clearly contributes to this value of mastering each stokes. As we know, Ming and Tang dynasties accentuated on story-telling with art and educating the public with art. Obviously, Bo Hong has no intention to carry on such a heavy responsibility of educating the public with traditional moral; he is definitely enjoying his art for the sake of the literati painting tradition. In other words, painting is a way for Bo Hong to experience his life.

  Yi E (Researcher of Chinese National Art Research Center):

  Bo Hong pay close attention to the principles of calligraphy and water color's fundamentals. He is showing nowadays people's view on nature. With many years of practice in Chinese calligraphic and profound understanding of traditional Yin and Yang painting techniques, Bo Hong's can vividly depicts landscape, flowers and birds. Yet he is still facing the same challenges as many of the modern artists do in how to better present Chinese art than ancient artists. He clearly knows the challenges. When he was intensely learning ancient masters' works, he knew he has to do something different and create his own style with Neo-Classical trend of paining in China.

  Bo Hong immigrated to the US in recent years. This provides him an opportunity to distantly look at his culture from a different angle. His being "home sick" made him more strongly attached to traditional art, and understands Chinese culture in a deeper level. Painting and calligraphy is like religion to Bo Hong. The real meaning of doing Chinese art to Bo Hong is not making a living, but to fulfill people's spiritual needs. Because of this believe, he is taking a higher road in understanding traditional Chinese art.

  Gao Hua (Editor of the Overseas Chinese magazine):

  Whenever Bo Hong is taking a moment to sit under a tree, or lying on the rocks listening to the springs, feeling the light breeze, his heart is with nature. He is good at painting nature with a grateful heart, showing his love to the natural environment, inheriting Chinese scholar's poetic, romantic view on landscapes.

  He has always enjoyed those experiences when he is traveling and tasting the flavors of lives. This is what art means to him. If you have the chance talking to Bo Hong, seeing his art, you will feel the charm of Bo Hong and his arts.

  Chinese painting and calligraphy is media for traditional Chinese art. Mr. Hong Bo is using his brushes to give us an overview of Chinese natural scenery and landscape. His art show held in Los Angeles will definitely help introduce the unique charm of Chinese painting and calligraphy to American citizens. We can also say that Hong bo is the rising star after art master Qi Baishi and Zhang Da Qian.
