张桂铭的绝活在于，他在运用均衡的同时，仍然有效地利用了笔墨趣味在画面中的支撑作用，譬如宿墨的韵味，譬如线条的变化，譬如合理的布白等等。仔细分析张桂铭作品的技法，可以发觉，他的鲜明的图式背后隐藏着精细的表现力，从色彩到笔墨，从笔墨到晕染，从晕染到布白，都是殚精竭虑的，因此也就非常深入和精到，那些在貌似简单的构图和章法中，让欣赏者能够在诸多方面咀嚼和品味其作品魅力，并铭刻很深的印象。

　　Zhang Guiming’s unique skill lies in that when he uses balance, he at the same time can make use of the supportive role the fun of pen and ink play in the painting, such as the charm of ink, the changes of lines and the appropriate layout of white etc. When carefully analyzing Zhang Guiming’s skill in his paintings, we can see the refined expressive force hide in the bright schema, from the color to the pen and ink, from pen and ink to making up, from making up to the layout of white, all these take Zhang Guiming’s great efforts, and so they are more in-depth and elegant. In those seemingly simple compositions, the audiences are able to enjoy and taste the charm of the paintings from many aspects, having a deep impression.

　　He does not fix himself up in the same pattern, what he pursues is diversity. So he hardly produces similar works, which is really important for a painter. Whenever he is to create a work, he must go through the process of careful consideration, and he would deliberately weigh before he starts to paint. Some of his works seem to be a casual creation, which actually have taken his great efforts.

　　再说桂铭先生的绘画，和他一代中人都曾在传统和现代之间徘徊，不见己意，固守传统，谓之画奴;一味求新，忽视笔墨，又如何称国画呢?纵览历代国画，每有一点突破，都有划时代的意义，我看桂铭先生的绘画即有此意。

　　Then let’s talk about Mr Guiming’s paintings. Among his contemporary painters, many have hovered between tradition and modernity, losing their own opinions and sticking to the tradition , who can be called the slaves of paintings; However, a traditional Chinese painting blindly seeking innovation and ignoring the pen and ink can not even be called a traditional Chinese painting .Surveying the history of Chinese painting, every breakthrough is of epoch-making significances; I think the painting of Guiming has this sense.
