章剑 Zhang Jian

1968年出生于北京，1993年毕业于中央美术学院。现生活、工作于北京。

深受印象派特别是马奈，谢洛夫等人的影响，章剑早期迷恋描绘外光与户外题材，呈现纯净、内省、静谧的日常生活。2000年以后，从印象派过渡到用照片创作，画面以大面积平涂为主，模糊化的处理手法让人联想到格哈德·里希特。“后海”、“长安街”和“天安门”系列创作于这个时期，带有群体记忆，具有特殊象征意义的公共场域成为章剑作品中的普通风景。

最近几年的创作更加主观、自由、表现，是现实与梦境又有些抽象的融合，在收放自如、绵密而清新的率意涂抹中，重新找到了与世界对话时的一种能让自己怦然心动的语调。

1968, born in Beijing, graduated from China Central Academy of Fine Art in 1993. Lives and works in Beijing.

Early in his career Zhang Jian was inspired by the Impressionists Édouard Manet and the Russian Valentin Serov. Zhang Jian became fascinated with representations of sunlight and outdoor themes, striving to demonstrate introspective, calm and peaceful moments in everyday life. In the early 2000s, Zhang Jian began to use photography as a starting point for his paintings and applied techniques of 'flatness' and blurred figuration in his work - evocative of the work of Gerhard Richter - that resulted in his Houhai, Chang’an Avenue and Tian’anmen series. Public spaces, linked with social history and each carrying special symbolic meaning, have become the focus for many of his works.  

In recent years, his paintings are getting more subjective and free - more expressionistic - creating a confusion of reality, dream and abstraction.  With the retractable, dense and fresh casual brushstrokes, he re-found a touching tone of dialoguing with the world.

About the Gallery

PIFO Gallery was founded in 2006 as a major gallery in China specialized in the study and promotion of abstract art. PIFO Gallery concentrates on the participation of the course of Chinese contemporary art and the exploration of post-war European master artists and seeking for all possibilities of art power in the dialogue and collision between the two aspects. We hope to see a growing number of collectors to take on the roles of a connoisseur, with a more in-depth understanding of Asian and Western contemporary art, and appreciate the artists discovered, reshaped and firmly believed in by the gallery.
