What You Were Afraid to Ask Hitchcock…… was invited to participate in Sixth Chengdu Biennale Exhibition in 2013. The video includes a great number of birds, and at the time the image of birds would cause Chinese people to think of bird flu, so I used Hitchcock’s name to remove this influence by recalling his film, The Birds. Then, I borrowed the name of Everything You Always Wanted to Know about Lacan but Were Afraid to Ask Hitchcock by Slavoj Zizek to attempt to eliminate the influence probably brought by the image of Hitchcock.
The same image, text or word can have many different meanings. For this reason, I tried to tactically use words in the hope of removing these adverse impacts or just confusing viewers.
This work echoes the theme of the exhibition, The Law of Echo, and focuses on discussing the echo effect between artists and authors, or among the texts of different times and their philosophical significance.
