内心的真实—读许宏翔的画


冀少峰


许宏翔的视觉图像表达是自我内心的一种写照。他希冀用图像去触及真实的社会现实,但现实的沉重和碎片化往往又把这种内心真实的对未来美好的渴望击的粉碎,但视觉图景所传达出的艺术新一代的艺术特质,开放的艺术视野,奔放的艺术激情,自由的艺术表达,以及扑面而来的那种迷人的色调的确为每一个走近其图像世界的人留下了深深的印迹。


很显然,在许宏翔的视觉图像表达中,带有80一代人的典型特质。这也使得他和师辈父辈的视觉表达有着鲜明的代际差异。许宏翔的视觉图像表达已经远离了宏伟宏大的叙事激情,甚至没有叙事,但自我个人的经验,对当代生存处境的焦虑体验深深地内化于他的图像间,从中亦可感知和体察到他艰难的自我审视和内化于心的真诚思考和真实的表达。那种对自由生活方式的追寻以及自由的艺术表达,也得益于当时整个社会氛围和社会的进步,思想的解放和整个宏观政治经济文化结构的变迁所带来的生活方式和艺术表达方式的改变。而观念形态的日新月异,图像时代的来临,全球化侵袭,消费社会所带来的欲望和焦虑不可避免的充斥在他的图像间。在看似无意义、无意识地书写中,透露着自我真诚而又激情的表达。


他置身的是一个图像铺天盖地的、图像无孔不入的时代,动画,大片,薯片,芯片构成了他的成长轨迹,也映衬在他的视觉图像中。虽然他拥有丰富的图像,但他又能机敏的逃离被图像吞噬的窘境,他不断地拆解图像,同时进行分离,重组甚或建构新的视觉图景,每一次的分离,重组,再建构,记录着的是自己内心的真实处境及面对现实的一种迷茫与期许,梦幻与迷离,憧憬与期盼及自我那颗敏感而细腻的心灵。生活中的他希望逃离万般的纠结与无耐。但回归画布回归图像间时,他又更像一个版主,他在真正的自主之地———视觉图像间,放飞着奔放着自我激情的想象,他不断地和图像去争斗,一次次为阅读者带来令他们激赏的趣味横生的拼图。帅性的书写,随心随意的草图,及在书写中的心情,心境,气候的变化……悄无声息中进入了他自主的图像间,由此也一次次记录着他所精心探讨和营构的比如他这一代人和社会,自然,生命的割不断理还乱的那种纠结关系,他在有限的图景中,表达出的是对未来命运的一种莫名的忧虑与彷徨,抵抗与坚持。他的图像伴随着他的思想逐渐触及到冷漠的现实和残酷的真实。透过图像,把自我的观念,立场,态度和盘托出。


许宏翔以一种浪漫中带有丝丝伤感的书写着自我不断成长的轨迹。他既能远离市场的喧嚣,又没有意识形态的纷扰,以一种内化于心的真实与真诚书写着自我置身于这个激变的社会发展潮流中的激情思考和表达。虽然过往的激情已经不再,青春也已经远离,但这种来自内心深处的真,不仅感染侵袭着阅读者的心灵,因为走近许宏翔的图像,也就走进了他的内心世界,因而这也助推着许宏翔不断向当代艺术的深处前行,也使当代艺术不断获得新鲜的血液,和不断能够获得前行的动力源泉。

Inner Truth—Reading Xu Hongxiang's Painting

Xu Hongxiang’s visual expression is a mirror of his innermost being. He wishes to reach with his images our social reality, but the weight and fragmentation of reality often obliterate this kind of sincere optimism. However, reflected in his images, the artistic qualities unique to his generation, the unrestrained aesthetic vision, the liberated expression, and the overwhelming palette left a strong impression on anyone who tries to approach his world of images.


Apparently, within Xu Hongxiang' s visual expression, one can discern the typical characteristics of people who were born in the 80s, which creates a distinctive intergenerational difference between the visual expressions of him and his forebears. Xu Hongxiang’s visual expression has already departed from those grandiose historical narratives that were once a fixture in the previous generation, to a point where all narrative contents are purged. But his personal experience—his anxiety towards contemporary living conditions has deeply ingrained within his images, in which one can sense his relentless self-examination, internalized contemplation, and his attempt to express the truth. His pursuit of a liberated lifestyle and artistic expression benefits from the progressive social atmosphere, ideological emancipation, and the drastic change augmented by the shifting political and cultural structure of the then society. While factors like the ever-changing ideology, the advent of the era of image, globalization, and the anxiety and desire of the consumerist society inevitably permeate his images. In his seemingly meaningless, unconscious gesture, lies an expression that is still sincere and passionate to his selfhood. 


He lives in an age where images are omnipresent, a time during which animations, movies, innovative technologies informed much of his youth while constituting his visual repertoire. Although he possesses an abundance of imageries, he can always escape from the dilemma of being dominated by the power of the image. In his works, he incessantly dismantles images and simultaneously reassembles and constructs new visual icons with these parts. Every split, reassemble, and reconstruction of his images chronicles his mentality and his confused expectation towards reality, while also revealing his sensitivity towards it. He hopes to escape from the helplessness and entanglement in his life through his works. Returning to his canvas and his images, he is like a conquer of a no man’s land—between his visual imageries, he let go of his imagination, allowing them to grow profusely. He wrestles with his images, again and again, offering his viewers endless visual puzzles to contemplate on. Unrestrained gestures, autonomous sketches, and his moods…all these elements slipped into his images unconsciously, which also recorded his attention and observation on his generation entangled relationship with society, nature, and life. In his finite images, he expresses a kind of distress and uncertainty, resistance and persistence, towards the future. His images attempt to touch upon this harsh reality alongside his thought, and through this, he laid bare his position, altitude, and approach to us.


Xu Hongxiang delineates his formative years with a romantic yet melancholic gesture. He can somehow stay away from the frenzy of the art market and the dilemma of ideology, depicting the internal contemplation and expression of an individual that is situated within an ever-shifting society. Although passion and youth are now bygone, this kind of sincerity remains powerful to his viewers. Because approaching Xu Hongxiang’s images is also approaching his inner world. This kind of transaction between artist and viewer pushes Xu Hongxiang to continuously probe the depth of contemporary art, while also bringing new blood into the discourse of contemporary art, bestowing him a source that never depletes.
