理想国——赵爱华个展

  “我何时接受邀请,成为理想国的主人,和你相对而坐,相看无语。”

  秋水空间将于2017年7月8日推出艺术家赵爱华的个展——《理想国》,本次展览也是艺术家在秋水空间的第一次个展。主要展出艺术家最新创作的水墨绘画作品。“理想国”是古希腊著名哲学家柏拉图的著作,正如柏拉图在理想国里建造了人类历史上最早的乌托邦一样;赵爱华亦用她的绘画作品,以一个“理想鸟”的形象,构建了一个视觉表征的理想国。

  “鸟人”是赵爱华水墨实践的形象,是她反复摹绘的主题,也成了她作品强烈的视觉符号。那些人物似鸟似人,有着奇特有趣的造型。有人说,这些“鸟人”是她自己在作品中的投射,是她的自画像,她以“理想鸟”的主体身份假扮、住持、审视和徜徉在画面世界中,在这个寓言的世界里,爱华的鸟人充满了各种象征和对现实世界的抽离。无论是此次展出的《母与子》系列、《在一起》系列,还是其最新的作品《日子》,她把具体的时间和空间关系打破,用形象之间的象征关系来建构她的精神世界和想象,人物之间充满着内在的对话性和主体的独白。对赵爱华来说,她的创作既疏离着现实,又紧贴着日常,“现实”只不过是她“幻象”的另一种说法,而日常又是她汲取的养分,因而她的创作提供给我们了一个“超越性”的视点,使我们获得了从经验世界,即现象界中抽身离开的可能。

  在当下的绘画系统中,赵爱华的艺术创作是“独特”的,这种独特性不是其绘画在当代系统规约语言中某种语言上的特立独行,而是相对于这个系统,其画面视觉的“彼岸”凝视和语言结构的拙朴。用王劼音老师的话说“赵爱华的成功在于她的随意表达和绘画的规律之间达成一个最大的公约数,开拓出了一个既突破了学院派画家的审美观又得到学术界认可的属于自己的艺术天地。”

  "When I accepted the invitation to become the master of Utopia, I sat opposite to you and remained speechless."

  Qiu Shui Space will launch the Zhao Aihua solo exhibition, Utopia on July 8, 2017. This exhibition also marks the artist's first solo exhibition in the Qiu Shui Space. The exhibition mainly showcases the artist's latest ink wash painting creations. The Republic is the writings of the ancient Greek philosopher, Plato. As Plato created the first Utopia in human history, Zhao Aihua builds a visual representation of the ideal state with her paintings and with the image of the "bird of ideal."

  The "bird man" is the image in Zhao Aihua's ink wash paintings. It is the repeated subject of her creation and has become her strong visual symbol. The characters are bird-like humanoids with strange and interesting postures. It is said that these "bird men" comprise her own project that is in the works, her self-portrait, in which, she disguises herself as the subject identity "bird of ideal," a host, which examines and wanders about in the world of images, in a world of fable. Aihua's bird man is full of symbols and pulls away to the real world. The exhibition's works: the Mother and Child series, the Still Together series as well as Nestle show dreamy and beautiful encounters, whispers of the family. In the light and surroundings of the warmth of family, they embrace each other freely, enjoying the warmth and absurdity of the world beyond reality. In these paintings, she breaks down specific time and space relationships, using the symbolic relationships between images to construct her world of spirit and imagination, the characters are full of internal dialogues and monologues. For Zhao Aihua, her creations are both alienated from reality and close to daily life. "Reality" is just her "vision," put in another way, and daily life is the nutrients for her, so her works give us a "transcendental" viewpoint, which enables us to pull away from the empirical world, a.k.a. the reality.

  In the present painting system, Zhao Aihua's creation of art is "unique," this uniqueness is not an attempt to be unconventional in the contemporary painting language system. It is meant to differentiate her personal painting with respect to the system. She creates the kind of visual picture that exhibits the gaze to "the other side" and the plainness of the language structure. In the words of master Wang Jieyin, "Zhao Aihua's success lies in her balance between free expression and the law of painting, opening up her own space of art that broke through the school painter's aesthetics and obtained recognition."
