晨画廊荣幸地宣布，我们将于2018年10月27日下午4点推出艺术家吴少英的个展：天宇。此次个展将呈现吴少英的绘画、影像以及光影装置作品，展览由Elements团队提供技术支持。展期持续至11月18日。

吴少英的创作一直以来尝试通过不同的介质来表现水墨变化丰富的质感，而其对水墨的执着最初则是来源于对云海的记忆。艺术家成长于澳门，这里特有的云海具有丰富的层次和变化，与海水的动态呼应深深地印在了艺术家最初的视觉经验里。

从早期用传统水墨的表现方式进行绘画创作的探索，到使用日常生活中所能接触到的液体，进行影像作品的创作，吴少英逐步将材料抽离出来，不同颜色及质感的液体在艺术家间接的控制中相互融合，呈现出控制与失控之间的动态关系，亦是文化对抗社会裂变的一种隐喻。在近期的创作中，艺术家将光影的变化及不同材料的折射引入创作实践，试图进一步打破基于水墨的文化边界。俯仰天地，对于艺术家来说，水天之间的气韵流动带来了一种对于生命的原始冲动，于当代社会发展所带来的创伤亦是提供了一条治愈的路径。当艺术家游走在不同的表现形式之间时，一以贯之的是曾经的视觉记忆所带来的对于自然的偶然性以及生命自由的无限向往。

整体而言，吴少英的作品承袭宋代美学，在形式上不断突破的同时始终保持着对于自我文化根源的探索，以当代的思维和媒介来承载其作品中所传达出的水墨意境及偶然性。这不仅成为了吴少英艺术表现的特征，更是其内在精神价值所在。

关于艺术家：

吴少英出生于澳门，1993年至1994年在伦敦逗留期间曾在大英博物馆中国书画收藏研究中心工作，后于1997年移居台湾，目前在北京生活和工作。吴少英一直在寻找不同的媒介表达水墨，多年来致力于探索不同媒介上的水墨语言表达，涉及到的媒介除宣纸、油画布、录像、宣纸等相对传统的媒介以外，还将水墨参与到互动剧场的表演之中。最近，她将光影和不同材料的探索融入创作，拓展了水墨的文化边界。

Chen Gallery is announcing with honor that we are presenting artist Cindy Ng’s solo exhibition: Sky. With the technical support from Elements, the exhibition will show Cindy’s paintings, video and installation works. Opening at 4pm, Oct 27th 2018, the exhibition will last until Nov 18th.

Cindy has been trying different media to show the various and changing texture of ink. Her obsession on ink originates from her memory of sea of clouds. She grew in Macau, a city famous for its complex and ever-changing sea of clouds, which made up her initial visual experience.

In the early days of creation, she used traditional ink painting to explore. Then she tried various liquids found in daily life to create video works. Cindy gradually extracted materials and blended liquids of different colors and characteristics under her indirect control, presenting the dynamic relationship between "control" and "out of control". It is also a metaphor that culture confront social changes. In her recent works, she brought the changes of light and shadow, as well as the reflection of different materials, into her creation, trying to further break the cultural borders based on in. Inspired from the sky and the land, for the artist, the energy flowing between the water and the sky bring a primary impulse about life, which provides a cure for the wounds brought by the development of contemporary society. When the artist plays with the various forms of expression, what is persistent is the infinite hope of the freedom of life and the contingencies of nature, which was brought by her past visual experience.

In general, Cindy’s works inherit from the Song Dynasty aesthetics, breaking through in form while keeping the exploration of her own cultural roots, presenting the aura of ink painting and contingencies carried by contemporary ideologies and media. This is not only the characteristics of Cindy’s artistic expression, but also the core of her spiritual value.

About the artist:

Cindy Ng was born in Macau. She studied the ancient Chinese paintings in the British Museum’s Chinese Painting Study Room, that period of study in London in the early 1990s proved especially fruitful. In 1996, she moved to Taipei and now she has lived and worked in Beijing.  Cindy has been seeking different media to present ink art, exploring the linguistic expression of ink on different media, which include traditional media such as rice paper, canvas, video. She also used ink in the performance of interactive theater. Recently, she adds her exploration of light, shadow and different materials, expanding the cultural borders of ink art.

Chen Gallery was established in the year of 2014 in 798 Art District. With a new start in Caochangdi International Art District in 2018, Chen Gallery will focus more on supporting young artists with oriental aesthetics and international expression skills.
