晨画廊将于2019年7月6日举办由MAMALA当代艺术中心出品的群展 “你是不是忘记我了| MAMALA庙会2019 ”。

 

不知不觉,人们正在以一种全新的方式密集“结社”,一种非正式的、松散的、水平的社会交往正在崛起,MAMALA庙会系列展览希望在此背景下以一种贴近现实的方式,类似集会、集市的框架进行一种重新确定和拓展人类交往认知的方式,构建一种情景,观察群体节日般狂喜下个体微观体验的细微变化,探索讨论人与人之间社会交往的密度与黏性。在绚烂的背景虚焦弥散之后,每一个疲惫的身体和他们各自不同的姿态,构成了当代社会的寓言。

 


以下是对MAMALA当代艺术中心创办人戴陈连的采访:



Q: 能否介绍一下MAMALA当代艺术中心?


A: MAMALA当代艺术中心是我在2013年创办的。周洁2018年11月加入,她是非常优秀的艺术家。MAMALA这个名字的起因是因为美国有个先锋戏剧剧团叫LAMAMA,我把它倒过来以提出自己的态度建立自己的品牌,它的前身是MAMALA剧场艺术节,2008-2010年在上海举办了三届。

我们平时会策划一些展览,推荐一些年轻的艺术家,推广具有实验性质的艺术。我们有一个微信公众号,专注于促进和提高当代艺术的公众意识,因此,从一开始就成为艺术家的线上创作空间、艺术与大众相遇的场所,同时线下寻求与艺术机构的紧密合作。



Q: 你希望MAMALA当代艺术中心给大家一个怎样的印象?用一句话概括。


A: MAMALA 是一个能量交换中心,将尝试维持一定标准,在各微观权力中达到某种动态平衡。 



Q: 为什么这次用庙会这个主题来做题目,之后会做庙会系列的策划吗?


A: 当下节日感和狂欢感在我们身边相当强烈,几乎每天都是节日,植树节、6.18、女生节、男生节、520,双11购物狂欢节等等,人们经常以各种名义进行聚会,每次的聚会都是一次自己命名的节日。还有微信朋友圈每次的转发和点赞就是节日,在这个记忆和遗忘并存的时代,人们用节日去覆盖节日,从被动观看到主动表演,以替代狂欢背景下深层的孤独感。当然我们知道只有这样是不够的,我们试图提问,但回答总在远处,四散逃亡。我们总是坚信所有的提问,提问却轻轻呢喃,于是我们从庙会入手,以集市的印象为层叠的线索来构建一个展览空间,所以有了MAMALA庙会系列展览,之后的系列展览都将由MAMALA当代艺术中心出品。



Q: 在这次展览的艺术品中,有雕塑、绘画、摄影、装置等多种媒介,你是如何遴选艺术家的?


A: 参加本次展览的艺术家都是我们身边熟悉的朋友,从身边的朋友开始谈论展览时可操作性比较强,也比较了解他们作品的起因和发展的脉络。



Q: 你是一个擅长讲故事的人,你打算如何编织这个展览的结构?


A: 我们从关于庙会的各种信息中感受、感知、体验、假想,还有在这些所有可以查到的图式和文案中提取信息,并且找到关键词。我们设置了多重的时间线索铺陈在整个展览中,由时间线构架出展示方式,由展示方式引导展览空间的重新分配,由分配分割延伸出时空的同时多线叙事,由多线叙事展开每个个体的境遇和丰富的现实情感,由个体的血肉之身喘喘之声编织出属于我们自己的历史,继而绵延生长重复回应着历史中那些重要的和被忽略的时间点和人物,这将是一个多重时间交织的现场,在这里你能遇到跌宕起伏的历史情节还有美丽的花仙子还有奇思妙想的艺术家。

 


Q: 你和周洁在这个展览中是如何分工的? 


A: 我们没有具体的分工,很多时候就是协同,相互补充相互配合。我们从展览概念设计到艺术家沟通,然后设计布展方案,再实地查看,然后再修改,都做了一些基础繁琐的工作,周洁的细心和认真给MAMALA带来了一缕又一缕的春风,借这个机会谢谢她,也谢谢晨画廊所有的朋友,他们负责专注利索的做事态度和风格都让我留下深刻的印象。

The Chen Gallery will hold a group exhibition produced by the MAMALA Contemporary Art Center on July 6, 2019. "Have you forgotten me?/ MAMALA Temple Fair 2019".

 


The following is an interview with Dai Chenlian, the founder of MAMALA Contemporary Art Center:



Q: Could you please introduce the MAMALA Contemporary Art Center? 


A: I founded the MAMALA Contemporary Art Center in 2013. Zhou Jie, an outstanding artist, joined us in November 2018. MAMALA was named because there is an avant-garde theater company in the United States called LAMAMA, and I wrote it upside down to show my own attitude and create my own brand. Its predecessor was the MAMALA Theater Festival, which was held three times in Shanghai from 2008 to 2010. 

We usually plan some exhibitions, recommend some young artists, and promote experimental art. We have a We-Chat public account that aims to raise the public awareness of contemporary art. Therefore, fromits founding, we have always been an online creation space for artists, a place where art meets the public, and an organization that seeks for close offline cooperation with art institutions. 



Q: What impression do you want the MAMALA Contemporary Art Center to leave the public? Summarize in one sentence. 


A: MAMALA is an energy exchange center that maintains a certain standard and achieves a certain dynamic balance among the various micro-powers. 



Q: Why do you use the theme of temple fair this time? Will you plan to do the series of temple fair? 


A: We are surrounded by festivals and carnivals nearly every day: arbor Day, 6.18, Girls' Day, Boys' Day, 520, 11.11 shopping carnival. etc. People often get together for the reason of different festivals and each party is a festival named by themselves. Each forwarding and like in the We-Chat moments is also a festival. In this era where memory and forgetting coexist, people use one festival to overlap the other festival, replacing the strong sense of loneliness in the context of carnival from passive watching to active performance. Of course, we know it is not enough. We try to ask questions, but the answers are always far away and scattered. We always believe that all the questions, which are asked by quiet whispers. So we started from the temple fair, used the impression of the far as layers of clues to build an exhibition space, that is how the MAMALA temple fair series exhibition came into being. The series exhibition will be produced by the MAMALA Contemporary Art Center. 



Q: There are various types of media, such as sculptures, paintings, photographs, installations, in this exhibition. How did you select artists? 


A: The artists participating in this exhibition are all friends of ours. It is more practical to discuss about the exhibition from the friends. And it is also because that I understand the origin and development of their works better than anyone else. 



Q: You are a good story teller. How do you plan to weave the structure of the exhibition? 


A: We extract feelings,perceptions, experiences, hypotheses from all kinds of information of temple fairs, and all the images and texts that can be found. We also find the keywords, construct the presentation methods with timeline, guide there distribution of exhibition space with the presentation methods, extend the distribution of time and space to form simultaneous multi-line narrative, each individual 'scircumstances and rich realistic emotions are unfolded by multi-threaded narrative. Then we start from the multi-threaded narrative to specify the experience of each individual and their rich real emotion and weave our own history from the voices and the body of each individual. After that, it grows and repeatedly responds to the important and neglected points in time and characters in history. This this will be a scene where multiple time interweave and you will encounter the ups and downs in historical plots, the beautiful flower fairies and fantastic artists. 



Q: How did you and Zhou Jie cooperated in this exhibition? 


A: We do not have a specific division of labor and we usually cooperate with and complement each other. From exhibition conceptual design to the communication with artist, then design exhibition plan, work on the spot, and then revise the plan. We both have done some foundational and tedious work, Zhou Jie has been of great help to MAMALA with her caring and attentive disposition, and now I take this opportunity to thank her. I would also like to thank all my friends of the Chen gallery, they are responsible and efficient, which deeply impressed me.
